    The paint cans:

We have slate blue - I think you said yours is golden fire brown?

    The gauntlets:

You may also want to get yourself an ecofan to spread the heat through the room/house. I bought one on amazon.com (the usa site) for £52 recently plus delivery - and they ask for £12 for possible import duties which apparently they return - two people on here have bought them from the site themselves. Over here you will pay at least £79 for the same fan if you can find one.

Brilliant advice thanks hethmar. The stove has been collected. DH (who knows nothing) says it looks old, has some rust and will need a paint as there is something on the top. Good news though sweep has just left, said the chimney is very clean, can see the original terracotta and won't need lining. Managed to pick up a sheet of granite for it to sit on for £25. I am so crossing my fingers that it is ok. I will need to get a cover for the chimney though. Back to ebay...

Oh also the back fire brick is cracked, are the ones you cut yourself on ebay as good as the manufacturers ones???

Well, we never attach a stove to a clay liner to be honest, as they arent up to the job, but if you do go that way, sweep VERY frequently and dont keep the stove on tick over as resin can build up, catch fire and crack the clay liners you have.

Dont know about ebay firebricks. I think our customers use Clearviews own ones if they ever have a cracked one. Its really not a great problem though. Who is fitting the stove for you?

Im sure it will really please you once you get to use it properly but do make sure its safe. Get your carbon monoxide alarm when you get your gloves and temperature gauge.

You can get the gauntlets for £3.23 from machine mart, you should have one near to you. Even cheaper at Toolstation for £2.92 - every little helps!
They are in fact welders gauntlets. The firebricks are "vermiculite" board the manufactures of stoves buy in and cut to size. I have bought some but have not tried as yet but they seem top quality to me. May not need to fit for some time so can not really recommend as yet.

I think the "to line or not to line" question is just one that splits people to be honest. My sweep is anti liners. He says the chimneys were designed for heat to go up them and will last much longer than the expensive liners. I also know the arguement about stoves giving off more heat etc. I am really not worries as I know plenty of people with stoves and no liner.

Thanks w50nky for the gauntlet info. We really are trying to keep the costs down on this project!

Fit is being quoted for this week. The salesperson trying to sell me the stove and fit together said they wouldn't charge more than £600 labour so I am using that as a rough guide. Both are HETAS approved. So far so good.

Oh and the stove itself is fine :D Really very small amount of surface rust and it looks very tidy and not old at all! I am quite pleased overall :)

Dont be bothering too much on a fireside set, only thing I use is a glove and a poker, rest is just a dust catcher. I use a bit of kindling to clean the grate out and a normal brush and pan for sweeping up.

Looks like a lovely stove you have there and a fantastic price. Fingers crossed you get it installed and working this side of christmas

Bit of a heads up for those who own stoves that do have firebricks installed inside firebox (mines does, 5) phone your local builder merchants, buying from stove manufacturer, you pay premium price per brick, I speak from practical experience.

Screwfix are doing gauntlets @ just under three quid, word of caution though, you will probably find you may fuel stove using one gloved hand only? Mix this, left glove, then right, and so on. Using say right hand glove, gauntlet will go hard and shrink with constant exposure to heat, mixing hands for fueling will see a bit more longevity for each gloves.

    I don't bother, I get mine for nowt :-)

    Regards.

I wish there was a site selling clearview with pictures other than the stock pics. The colour on those stoves isn't very clear and I am going to find it hard to colour match. I think the golden fire brown is too dark for the appearance of my stove looks more like honey gold brown, but I am only going by the tiny squares clearview have on the website.
We have knocked out the horrid cotswold stone 'thing' in the living room. Looks better already! Fingers crossed the fitters are decent and the stove fits!

I think the 500 is about £1700 incl VAT now? Hope your OH comes round to seeing what a bargain his wife has got :)

If you go to a clearview stockist they should have colour samples. These ones arent too clear for you. We have the slate blue.
