To be fair it clearly wasn't just me misreading the T&C as the MSE article clearly stated (has since been changed!) that what you got discounts for depended on the order the operator put them through the checkout!

The second half of my comment stands however - Sainsbury's Bath Green Park store is an abomination and whoever is in charge of the shambles in there needs taking outside and dumping over the bridge into the river! Just because its the only decent sized supermarket in town, doesn't mean it can take customers for granted.

i dont mean to take the thread off the original topic but whats so bad about the store,

Neither do I, but go to Sainsbury's Odd Down which is far better than Green Park. But I do live opposite it, so easy for me to say :-)

How does a 'price match' get new customers through it's doors?

If I am shopping for item X, then I will shop where X is cheapest, and not where it is more expensive and I have to jump through hoops to get the difference back (and have to spend that on another occasion in the same store). Oh wait a second, I get it now...

Its hardly jumping through hoops to get the difference back is it as you get the voucher at the till.

If I'm shopping in Sainsburys and receiving vouchers every week because they are refunding me due to them being more expensive, would the vouchers make me stay, or would the revelation that they are more expensive than ASDA etc. make me go elsewhere...

ASDA's scheme gives you 10% extra back so the act of receiving the voucher doesn't necessarily mean they were more expensive than elsewhere (and even if they was, they then undercut instead of just matching) which is why that works. I'm not so sure about this one.

Mainly the stock control although the cramped layout doesn't help. Every single time without fail that I relent and go back there (usually because I'm in a rush and haven't got time to go further) I come out without a basic item. Sunday was a classic case in point - 2pm on Sunday, no 4 pints of semi skimmed milk, so a choice of either paying for organic or 2 pint containers at much higher prices. We all expect occasional outages, but milk halfway through a day's opening? Other times you'll go in and the fresh veg looks like its been attacked by locusts as there is nothing there.

More minor niggles that compound the above are that its neither cheap nor offers decent loyalty rewards (so its just undisguised expensive), their in store granary bread and rolls are the worst of all the big 4 supermarkets, and they keep moving things around for the sake of it!

Its basically trying (and failing) to cater to more people than a store that size ideally should. However rather than sort the stock issues, they just seem to rely on lack of competition (Bath has two Sainsburys, one Morrisons, one Waitrose and one Co-op - no Tesco other than extras, and no Asda nor Lidl etc) and expect people to just put up with it. Ironically if Tesco get permission to open along the road it will improve this store by removing some of the pressure on it.

Also, if they are going to give vouchers from the same printer that gives the "80 Nectar points when you spend £20" type coupons, are they going to service them properly so that the barcodes are printed well enough to scan?

.. or ensure they have paper in them, or are even working at all... poor things, flashing "error" lights or clicking and clunking and not managing to produce any paper... this in a newly refurbished store too..!

Why am I so suprized at being disappointed by this!

Branded items only?? What so I go to Sainsburys and only stick to the health, beauty and washing up aisle? Leave the food for another day maybe (oh of course! I have a car- all sainsburys shoppers have cars, right?!)

What was even the point in offering something like this? They could have made this so useful and really hit alot of the less financially fortunate shoppers out there, insted it seems to be only available to those who have £20 to blow on branded items (knowing fully well that even when compared to other stores, they're going to always come off higher priced then own-store lines).

What a waste of everyones time?!

I think it's quite good. I plan to get a £9.76 voucher for a £26 shop including a 12 pack of beer

Well done on finding a store that charges £9.76 more - some achievement. :D
Don't drink all that beer in one go, or you might just do it all over again.............or even worse...........you might lose that voucher. :rotfl:
