car parked against my bumper

Unfortunately you doing badger lady an injustice here.
B.L was here, talking about being able to park infront of a car and still be able to open the boot/tailgate. She said that this was possible when she parked infront of the smart roadster. For the reasons stated.
B.L. did not repeat the claim that she could park with a couple of inches infront and behind.
Perhaps those of us with:
3 cars or
2 cars and a wall or
1 car and some boxes
and
Too much time on their hands
can try to find the smallest gap possible.
Injustice??? Errrrr read again, to quote BL;
"I have very proudly managed to parallel park into spaces where I only have a couple of inches at either end of my car. It takes a long time, a lot of physical effort on the steering wheel and a lot of slow, careful judging of just how far back and forward you can shuffle. I usually drive very small cars and make the most of available space (my last couple of houses have been on-street parallel parking zones that are squeezed for space)."
So I don't really think so, and can only have sympathy with the arthritic old git who can't "take a long time, a lot of physical effort on the steering wheel" to get out of the situation that parking like this creates, (even if it was possible)
It's plain simple it is asking for trouble/damageI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Guinness World Record for parallel parking is 24cm and was set earlier this year.
Video of a dude fitting in a 26cm space (in german, but you get the idea) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeFNunnYiKY To be honest it looks like there is room for improvement, Badger_Lady should put herself forward to claim the title
I can't wait to see him attempt to get out of that space .....0 -

It's my own car. I have twoAnd I always make sure they're virtually bumper-to-bumper with one another, in order to maximise the parking space that's available to my neighbours.

So if that is the world record, there are a number of liars on here..we know who you are...or they should be entering themselves in to the record books!!!0 -

No, Your post #52 was in reply to her post #51 and you took issue with her words
"I did find that I could do it if I parked up against my Smart Roadster"
Your post 52 makes no sense at all, because BL had changed the subject and you related it to the previous topic.
Your post 52 did her an injustice because she had not repeated the same claim but was talking about something different. And she said "my Smart roadster".
You will have noted that I also challenged the other subject earlier on in the thread, I'm not talking about that subject and neither was BL.......which is the point I was making.
I hope you can agree.0 -

I hope you can agree. To be honest it was just a generic reply to what BL had said and I recalled from the earlier post. Can't be too bothered to read it all again so you are probably right in your quotes
Doesn't take anything away from the argument that she posted what I quoted and I seriously have issues with anyone who considers general parking like this on the streets is aceptable.
If we are simply talking crowded neighbours who are in the amicable position to cramp each other on the understanding that they can move the boxing in cars if asked then fine, (this is what BL inferred later), but I don't thing there are many scenarios like that. Certainly judging by the number of neighbour disputes heard on here;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Yup, if the world record is 9.5 inches, and some people here are doing it in 3 inches then...you guys seriously need to get yourselves in the record books. I guarentee you'll never be beaten if you get it in there at 3".
I very rarely ever need to parallel park myself as I have 2 spaces specifically for my house at the rear but I tend to only parallel park in a gap which is around 2' to leave decent space at either end. Plus, a 2 foot gap is big enough to swing into in 1 move with zero effort, meaning i'm not wasting time going back and forth.
If it's smaller than 2 feet, i'd rather just drive 1 minute down the road and walk as it's less effort.
It's like those people you follow into Asda car park who drive around the front looking for a space. You see them just walking into the shop as you're leaving if you just wanted 1 bag of stuff.
On the other hand, if I ever seen a car touching mine I'd be livid and want an explanation. I complained to my new neighbours when I moved in as they kept taking my 2nd parking slot! I never use it, but it's the principle, they didn't ask. I hate it when someone is ignorant enough to 'assume' you won't mind.
I'd have let them if they asked, now they can never use it even if they have guests...hehe.0
