Sounds like it's just Apple's servers being overloaded.
Apparently you just need to keep trying...

it part installed something, rebooted my ip4 and then went 3200 lol :mad:

i now have 6.9gb of "other" on my iphone grrrrrr

Did you back the iPhone up first? When you have installed the new iOS it should reboot and then ask you to restore from your backed up phone.

yes, all backed up, it's restored everything except my contacts :-(
