Wow the dla should ease the pressure a bit.. Well done for filling in the form :)
The new venture sounds good too! Fingers crossed your dads tender bid is successful!

So happy you got the DLA sorted, Dinah. And that's really promising news about the possible job with your Dad!

That must be horrible with your wages, NIM. OH's work are just as bad with wages, it's technically the 25th but sometimes we're left waiting until the 28th which stresses OH out so much.

Been left in charge at my second job this week as the main therapists are on their jollies. They've been more than generous though, paying me my full wage for going in one hour a day - plus whatever hours I work for their part time therapist.

Did everyone have a nice weekend? We didn't get up to a great deal, went to the Cinema on Saturday and I did a little Christmas shopping for OH yesterday (got him a snazzy coffee maker so he can wake up to fresh coffee every morning, and a Pulp Fiction travel mug.)

Hoping Tete is okay/safe in New York, must be a weird atmosphere there at the moment! But I remember when they last went into lock down for a storm people were playing in the streets, so hopefully things won't be too bad.

I've been worrying about Tete too, saw a Tweet this morning saying she was OK though, her flight has been cancelled but they're stocked up with food. I sent her a message on there so will hopefully hear back once she wakes up. :)

We had a nice weekend, went to a work party on Friday which turned out to be a free night as it was a free bar! :) Saturday went to York in the day and did Fountains by Floodlight in the evening which was nice but absolutely chock-full of photographers with tripods, not a good idea having a black tripod set up on a dark field where unsuspecting people (like me!) will come within inches of tripping over the bl00dy thing! ;) Went to see Skyfall yesterday which was really good, lovely to see Bond back on form! :)

Good stuff about work Cinny, you must be good if they're leaving you in charge; and more money is always welcome! :)

Hope the venture with your Dad works out Dinah, would be excellent if it happened! :)

CMD, did you get anywhere with the holiday apartment people? Saw your Hallowe'en costume on FB and loved it BTW! :T

Morning all, not having such a good day here to be honest. Haven't posted in a while but have had some bad news. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer just over a week ago. They are hopefully that it has been caught at a very early stage but I have to go in for my scan results this afternoon. I wasn't really sure whether to share it on here or not but I feel as though I could use any extra positive thoughts today if you have any going spare. I'm sitting at work at the moment trying not to go out of my mind :(

Oh God Shrimpy, I don't know what to say, there seems to be daignoses of cancer left right and centre these days. If they reckon they caught it early then hopefully you wont have to go through Chemo and the operation will sort it all out. Obviously sending the good vibes your way.
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

Thanks Birdie, whoever thought afternoon appointments for this kind of thing were a good idea?! I wish I'd booked the morning off now but at the time I thought work would take my mind off things, plus my holiday year ends in August so because of the wedding time off I have booked, I'm left with about four days between now and then. Bah!

I hope Tete gets back ok! When you're away you always think you'd love to get stranded there don't you, until it actually happens! And obviously thinking of everyone else over there too and hoping they all stay safe.

Cinny you are so organised with your Christmas shopping! I have some bits already but I'm nowhere near as ahead of the game as I like to be. Need to get in gear! I was a bit spendy over the weekend and forked out for a new laptop. Mine died last week (it is 7 years old) and although I managed to revive it, none of the USB ports would work. So I finally gave in and bought a new one. I had no idea Windows 8 had just launched so the shop was rammed, but I knew I'd only change my mind and put it off for another year if I didn't bite the bullet! Its very shiny and new :)

ETA: Thanks NIM, they are hopeful that an operation will be enough at this stage, fingers crossed the scan results will confirm it.

I'm so sorry, Shrimpy :( Will be thinking of you this afternoon, hoping this morning goes as quickly as it can for you. Sending lots of hugs :grouphug: (if a moment ever called for a dodgy hug it's moments like these!)

Conrats on the swanky new laptop though! I always get thrown for about a week using a different laptop/computer as the keys are never quite in the right place. When I get asked to do something on a Mac I'm all fingers and thumbs.

Thanks Cinny. When I changed to a Mac in my last job it took me three weeks to find the power switch :o That said, I loved it once I got used to it. Sadly I couldn't quite justify a Macbook! My new laptop is white so I feel like its a Mac wannabe! Windows 8 is totally bizarre though, there's no start menu or anything. The home screen has apps for photos. internet etc and you can toggle between that and the conventional desktop (I figured out how to do that eventually). I don't like being the first to have stuff, I'm just not cutting edge!
