Thanks Emz, I think you just might be right. It feels like a bit of a weight has been lifted, and it's also nice to feel like someone believes us about her health, it might only be an anonymous government official, but I feel a bit less mad that we're being told she has all these issues and we work on them every day and they take up so much of our life, and then because outwardly she looks like a healthy newborn we have friends and well meaning family telling us germs are good for babies.

To be fair, Harry did say some things were good for her, like Pushka
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

You're welcome. I'm sure my parents felt the same way when I was a baby. I have cystic fibrosis, so look perfectly normal on the outside, but all the problems are on the inside.

I'm glad it looks like you got the higher rate without any hassle.

    Emz xx
  • I agree that it seems to be higher rate that you've got as well as the lower rate mobility. It's a pity that you've not managed to get higher rate mobility as that would've entitled you to a Motability car.

I get higher rate mobility and middle rate care and they are both a godsend at helping me stay in full time work.

Glad that things seem to be going your way and sorting themselves out.

  • Well done on your application, there are actually two components to DLA. There is a care element and a mobility element. These can be paid at different levels. I get higher care and middle mobility (I think).

I think that you will get the higher rate for care but the decison on babies needing mobility is a mine field. As they say that you would carry them or push them in a pram. However in your case you have to have a car for appointments and for tanks.

You may well have got the higher level for both elements, which would be great.

Great news about getting the DLA Dinah, that's a nice little cushion to have. :) Have they not explained what they're paying you and why? Will be good to know how much to expect and when it'll be paid. :)

I can't believe what you're saying about NIM's paycheck, how unprofessional of them to mess around so much! I don't like the date that I get paid (20th of the month and it feels like it's all gone by the 1st of the following month!) but at least it's consistent. Hope his new employers are much better. When does he start? :)

Went to get our holiday money at lunchtime. OH didn't want to get a pre-paid Visa again (he likes to sit and count how much we have left every day to keep on top of things so we don't run out too quickly bless him and got himself all stressed out with a card as he didn't know exactly how much we had at any given moment) so we've got cash and some travellers cheques as they didn't have the full amount we wanted in stock, of the cash they did have they only had one $100 bill and the rest was in $10 bills. We left with a wad of notes an inch thick, no idea how that's going to fit in a wallet/purse! It makes us feel super rich though! ;)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

    Starts on the 12th :)

We got a letter this afternoon, we got higher rate care, we can't get mobility as she's under 2 which I already knew.

My dad is applying for a tender for his company, if he gets the work he's going to ask me to do a good chunk of it, and I'll be paid in the region of £500 a month. I really like the sound of the work too, lots of web based research to produce articles and a monthly specialist newsletter in his field. I just need some of these ideas to become reality now.
