Slept in. Was woken by my driving instructor hammering on the front door, I opened it, realised I had to be at the test centre in 15mins and it was a 20min drive away and just grabbed some jeans from the ironing pile in the lounge, and the flip flops which were in the porch and ran!
I've heard the argument that newer cars are more fuel efficient, but you're right, it doesn't explain away the huge insurance cost rise and depreciation costs too when you come to sell it on. Ours does us okay simply because we couldn't afford all the work which the old one needed doing and the ongoing costs, but it certainly costs us more to run month by month. I can't wait for the new insurance to kick in though, it will free us up by £78 a month.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Tete - I agree that it would be nice to spread the visiting out for your friend and a good exscuse to quickly finish the blanket.
Everyone always says you will have loads of visitors but I only had my mum, dad and sister and her OH in the first couple of weeks! That's what happens when you live far away from everyone and your OH's family refuse to leave their town haha.
Got to admit that is quite funny about the nighty Dinah! Great news about the cheaper insurance too.
I am knackered today as someone kept me awake hours last night. Going to attempt christmas cake this afternoon and then collapse on the sofa.0 -
I think we'd have loads of visitors; no-one in our group has a baby yet so if we had the first one they'll all be round because it'll be something brand new! OH's family will be round all the time too since they're all so close to 'help' when I'll just want them to leave us alone! I'll stick a sign in the window so they can see when we're open for visitors! We'll never be open for BIL, he's so loud he'd scare a baby!
Had to think who you meant when you said 'someone' Wendz! Is Poppy not well or is she just keeping you awake for fun?!
That's great news about the insurance Dinah!
I'm sure that a new car would be economical for petrol in theory... but we'd be replacing my little 1.2 car with at least a 1.4 if not 1.6 so I'm sure that we'll be spending just as much if not more money on petrol! Probably more if it's a car that OH likes to drive as he'll be wanting to go on road trips every weekend and offering to drive the boys to away matches on Saturdays! No... it's definitely better to stick with the clunky Punto for now! Saying that, the MOT is due and the clunkiness is probably an issue that'll cost a lot to fix!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. See Tete, there is huge public demand for an R2D2 hat (ok, just from Birdie, but it's not the point!) So I'll send you the details and the picture and will wait by the letterbox!
Shrimpy - also, when they do the eye sight check when they get you to read a cars number plate don't be clever like me and say "What car?" That didn't go down to well!
Dinah - as you know, the DF road is long and bumpy. You'll get there, just that life comes in and scuppers plans. Any thing over and above the minimum payments is an achievement
Lara - oooo, shiny new glasses. If you're going to wear them all the time, you'll get your moneys worth. A girl I used to go to school with came up with a system - if a pair of jeans cost £30 and she wore them 30 times, then £1 a wear was good. If she only wore them twice, then that's £15 a wear and then she would wear them more!
Anyone heard from Starnac? Do we have a MSE baby yet?!DEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14!

Has anyone got a Kindle by the way? I would like one for Christmas and trying to decide if I should ask for the new £89 version without the 3G and keyboard (using the Tesco code so it's only £79) or if I should ask for older keyboard version for a bit more? Don't really think I'll need the 3G as won't be buying books on the go but is the lack of keyboard going to be a problem? No idea what it's used for anyway but don't want to find that I'd have preferred it once I've got the smaller version!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. My Mum's got the Peugeot 'Aygo' (is it a 107?) and it's a fab little car but OH doesn't like it at all! Don't think it's manly enough for him!
Greenie I use that system for justifying big spends too! My expensive bag that I got on holiday has already worked out as $7.60 a day and that's only over 35 days since we bought it!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I was about to say, I don't think an Aygo would solve the 'I'm too big for the car' issue - but one of our friends has one and she loves how cheap it is to run, tax, insure, repair etc.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I'd have one in a heartbeat, it costs my Mum £20 to tax it for a year! I may get OH to take it for a test drive as it is deceptively big inside, not sure what the pedals are like though. His main issue with the Punto is that the pedals are too close together and too high so his feet get stuck under the plastic covering thingy and when he goes to break he somehow hits the accelorator and the break at the same time! It's always fun when that happens! :eek:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

I meant that it would keep him from going on roadtrips and get your costs down cause he'll keep thinking I'm too big for it.
LOADS of room in them assuming your not putting anyone in the back. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0
