Hi all,
Thanks for all the lovely comments about my blanketI know in theory it's good to leave new parents be for a while, but it's a case of getting the balance right isn't it, you don't want to look disinterested. When my York friend had her baby in Feb, my two London friends had booked trains up for us all to make a visit in March for that very reason, and a couple of weeks before we all got a text saying "Oh I can't wait for you to meet her, you're the only ones who haven't!" And we're her best friends!! Felt a bit rotten about that!
As for the R2D2 hat, I have to admit [STRIKE]my eyes glazed over[/STRIKE] I skimmed over all the Star Wars talk the other day so haven't seen it, but it sounds complicated. Unless it's made of granny squares it's beyond my capabilities!
Dinah don't know how you were so relaxed about your test you could sleep in! Best way to be though obviously! I learnt in an Aygo diesel and it was great for being able to hear the engine and control the car on manoeuvres etc, but it's no Micra! I love my Micra and I don't care that it doesn't have bells and whistles - I maintain that you have to be a better driver in older cars that don't have rear parking sensors and all thatEDIT - I'm taller than pretty much everyone and the Aygo was fine for me.
Don't sweat it too much about your £104 targets, as others have said some months will be better than others and anything you pay off is better than nothing, and even if you stand still at least you're not going backwards. Don't get disheartened, you're doing great!
Birdie I hate the concept of a Kindle but I did download the Kindle app for my phone - all the older books such as Treasure Island are free to download (for Kindles as well as phones) so I have a few for if I ever get caught short on a delayed train or anything. The small screen isn't ideal but the free books are pretty MSE
Hope everyone else is well, fingers crossed for StarWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Thanks for cheering me up about missing the target ladies. I do get disheartened easily, especially when in my head I feel NIM has lost focus and I'm on my own again, and I always have the thought that I'm letting the thread down.
I learnt to drive in a saxo - which says how long ago it was! There is nothing like the fear of learnign to drive in a 1* safety rated car to stop you ploughing into other road users.
New flu jab symptom - ridiculous thirst. I'm now on my 3rd litre of water in 3.5 hours, and I'm thirsty if I have to take a phone call which lasts more than 5mins. This is daft.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -
My first car was a black Saxo called Suzy and I loved her so much!
Agree that you have to be a better driver in older cars, first time OH stalled in my car he didn't know what to do as it didn't automatically restart, what's up with that?!
It is a difficult balance Tete, when my old manager had her baby I was desperate to go round to see them but didn't know when was a good time so just kept in touch via text and waited for her to give me a good time for them as they were trying to get into a routine. It still went to pot when I went round as he wouldn't stop feeding then cried a lot, but I tried!
I'm not too sure about the Kindle either Tete as I do love real books, but it'll be so good for holidays and travelling and for reading in bed, I'm apparently a very annoying page turner!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Thankyou for your encouragement ladies, I don't feel too bad about it in all honesty, I wouldn't say I was prepared for failure as that sounds a bit defeatist, I felt ready for the test but wasn't totally gutted to fail, I know I'll pass eventually, although I hope it doesn't take 18 attempts like your friend Dinah! Not sure I have the stamina! I have already rebooked though so am officially back on the horse!
My instructors car is an Aygo and I love it, its not exactly old but still much easier to drive than the brand new Ford(s) the AA were using, I was scared to touch anything! And they were so quiet! I have the opposite to your OH Birdie, won't drive our car at home as its too big. But have agreed to go out with OH in it this weekend, although I may still chicken out
Tete, that blanket is AMAZING! So lovely! I tried to learn crochet last year but found it really difficult, may go back to knitting but I think crochet looks prettier somehow.
Dinah, your debt busting is still going well even if you don't make target this month. Nothing is more important than your health, I know its tough but you don't want to make yourself worse for next month. I'm sure you will find the balance but know from on here that you can be a little hard on yourselfGood luck!

I should probably be thankful I didn't have hundreds of people round but I did like having visitors.
Birdie - not sure why she wouldn't sleep last night, doesn't help that she now crawls round the cot and headbuts the sides! We put it down to the bottom level yesterday so she can't climb out so might have been strange for her.
I used to hate the idea of a kindle but coming round to it now, is so heavy carrying books to work in my bag and i will be walking a lot when i'm back so would be nice to have something light and also when you finish a book there are more you can read. Hmm who can i persuade to get me one.
My sister is just back from her work trip to New York and text me to say she saw Jedward :rotfl:, of all the people to see.0 -
Lol at jedward!
Sorry about the test shrimpy but you sound positive
I had no idea automatic restart existed birdie, kids these days...! I think you need a bit of healthy fear that your car night not survive the journey for your first car! Mines engine just used to cut out when I was on the duel carriage way, kept me on my toes!
Don't stress dinah, you beat your Target last month so a little slip isn't end of the world. Was always going to be a pricey month.
I'm back at work today and missing meals on trays!

Maybe she did feel a bit odd if you altered the cot Wendz, I know when we got our bed we found it difficult to get used to being higher than usual and it threw us for a few nights so maybe she's feeling the same with being lower?!
Jedward's a pretty good spot! Yesterday we saw a lady from the TV show 'My Transsexual Summer' that had been shown on Tuesday night, the lady I was with had been watching it and was telling me about it then this tall blonde woman walked past and she got all giddy because she recognised her! We had to check for the Adam's apple to confirm that it was definitely her!
Shrimpy, I did some of my learning in my Mum's old CRV (4x4), that was pretty scary stuff, I felt like I was driving a bus! Its good to do some driving in a big car though, once you can confidently drive a big car you can drive anything!
ETA: Totally agree about the healthy car fear Archers! My Saxo would shed parts at random!
I really love the thought of taking a Kindle on holiday with me, so many times I've packed 4/5 books and not been able to get into a single one so I've been a bit stuck for something to read, that won't happen if I've got hundreds stored in one little gadget!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Just popping in to say, Birdie, Kindle was my best purchase of the year! It's just so convinient and small and you never run out of books. And if you travel a lot than I would recommend the 3g version. We travel a lot and most hotels ask money for using their wifi which I find very upsetting
. I check my emails while abroad and the kindle has been a lifesaver, no need to pay, it's available anytime. Also great for reading news or use it in emergency (we got lost when our gps refused to work in Greece and found directions on kindle). Overall, I love my kindle and would not hesitate recommending it. I'm sure Cinny will come along and agree with me...

Gosh Dinah don't think you have to prove something to your Threadies, it's supposed to be for motivation not expectation. Though we will kick you up the bum if we feel you need it
I found crochet really hard at first Shrimpy and still do when learning a new stitch, it takes a while to get into your own groove with stuff like that. Youtube vids are invaluable if there's no-one who can teach you in person. Are you going to the thing on Satuday Dinah or is cost an issue? I'm still gutted about missing it. Maybe we could get together with our machines and youtube and have a go at teaching ourselves?!:money:
From what Kavics says a Kindle is much more than I thought it was! I thought it was literally just books?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Not only books, you can use the internet too and put music/audiobooks on it. The internet is slow and obv the screen resolution is not great but it's usable and practical.I also download my OU books on it (if available) so can carry them everywhere.0
