what are the best value dating sites?

Ok, I've only started reading this thread this morning. I've read the first 20 pages completely and a few random was after that to get the gist.

A few years ago I used PoF & Guardian soulmates (GS). GS brought forth contact with some lovely ladies but nothing had that "spark". Lots of shared interests, people that you would always happily spend time with a social events. Chatty but attentive. Coherent discussions, none of this "..and I was like" "and he was like, woteva" - thank god.

PoF was heading in entirely the opposite direction with lots of one line emails, people claiming shared interests that were soon tripping over their own lack of knowledge. I received an email that said nothing more than "hello" I replied and we chatted by email for about a week and then spoke on the phone at around midnight and didn't hang up until about 7am that was followed by 3 great years together. Sadly, it has now come to an end - I'm still trying to work out exactly why but it was probably my fault after all, I'm a man:rotfl:.

One point I found interesting further back in the thread was the possibility that a lot of the one line contacts were actually generated by the dating sites in order to get people to pay to read their emails. I think this may well have some merit.

Earlier in the week I created an account on MailDating (Daily Mail). The only information on there at the moment is my user name, date of birth and in the description it says ""Please do not email, you will not receive a reply. Good luck with your search.""

I did this while I decided if I was going to go ahead and to take time to create my profile. In 4 days, this non-profile has generated 26 emails from other users, all of which have gone unread. 26!!! either these people are incredibly desperate or we have to accept the possibility that at least some emails are sent without the users interaction.

Thoughts, anyone?

well ive pretty much given up on the dating websites!!! The last date was last month and he seemed keen to see me again but never fixed another date so i gave up on him. To be honest at the min all im getting from them is the "up for a bit of fun" messages lol, delete and block. I closed down my POF account as thats ALL i got from them. I have had a guy talk to me on okcupid but he comes across very........ 'smarmy' is the only way I can think to put it, the guy dont know me at all but he's all 'honey' and 'baby' when he messages me, and he was constantly wanting me to add him to my fb. I havent replied to him in a week lol.

I went to my mates wedding reception the other night and ended up with a proposal lol-from a 16 year old!!!!!!!!! He's my best mates hubbys nephew, he developed a bit of a crush last year, but its full blown now lol. My mates think its hilarious and were joking about 'the wedding' and he says soon as he's 18 he's marrying me lol. Im almost twice his age!!!!!!!!!!

haha, he's gorgeous but sooooo young!!!! He thinks im the most beautiful woman he's ever seen-yeah cos youre 16 love!!!!

We had a dance which was fun, he made me blush cos I said I was going home if i was in for another night of stick from my mates over him (they do it everytime hes around!) and he turned round, asked if i was really going cos if so, he'd go get a taxi for US!!!! He's very confident lol, but i guess that has a lot to do with being 16.

Tell him if he's still keen when he's 21 you'll say yes. I'm sure people have had long lasting relationships with bigger age gaps

I really want to name and shame the idiots involved but I wont lower myself to their level (yes there is more than one)
I posted earlier that I thought I may have been set up by the guy who dumped me by text, well call it coincidence but I have since been contacted by another 2 users who, surprise surprise, work at the same place. I appreciate that it is a huge company with about 4 offices in Edinburgh but come on...
All of them have said they dont have a "base" and that they float around within the company. I decided not to say I had dated someone from the company to the last guy who messaged but low and behold, he asked me!
Was tempted to say "yes, I dated ***** and we broke up as he was full of carp and even more carp in the sack!"
That way if it is him with multiple profiles it would give him something to think about. I never though, instead I chose to delete my profile. Theres got to be easier ways of meeting people anyway right??
I would like to thank everyone on here for the help and encouragement given to me when I decided to dip my feet in the water. Good luck to all.I will still be checking in on here to see how everyone is doing. Maybe someone will get lucky, just not me!!
