Little update here, I met a guy on POF, he's just my type, lives right around the corner and we even go to the same gym! Spent the past 3 weeks or so more or less together all the time and we've even had the 'are we serious?' talk and decide that we're both open to it being that way, but we're going to spend even more time getting to know each other and just see where things lead He's also a perfect gentleman, works and about to get a degree!
So don't give up hope anyone, I'm super fussy and even I've managed to find someone, so I'm sure you all can too


Although he isn't totally perfect... he supports Chelsea!

Many thanks to Frogletina, VfM4meplse, Luella-14, _sleepless_ and LisaB85 for your help and kind words, I thought there were some good suggestions in there and things that hadn't crossed my mind. I've made a few changes, updated my intentions and will now go on a hunt for another profile photo. Fingers crossed!

Oh and Lisa, how local is local?

So I've been back on POF since begining of January and I've had 6 dates which I suppose is not bad going but none of them felt right. I've just made my profile searchable after about a month of being hidden and not logging in and tbh there's not many decent men around atm. I'm so fed up of mesages that say 'wanna chat' or 'hi, howz u'. I delete these straight away, if a guy can't be bothered to send a decent message then I don't think he's worth it. Am i being too picky??

No I don't think you are - Im exactly the same! I don't bother replying to those kind of messages as I think whoever sent them hasn't put in any thought. Ive done spates of internet dating in the past and although I met some nice blokes I never found anyone that I really clicked with or wanted to see again, my friends say Im too picky but Id rather be on my own that just settle for someone.

Ive just been on a second date with a man I met a couple of weeks ago, we get on well but Im not particularly feeling bowled over! Im on POF but thinking of going on to one of the pay sites like Match to see if there is a better selection of men in my age group there

Don't give up though- I have several friends who are now living with/married to people they met online dating.

generally inferior maybe but we arent all midgets im 6ft 1 but perhaps its the inferior thing with me then lol

I can save you some money - Match has a huge membership, but most of the men aren't worth bothering with. It's a low quality site.

OKCupid looks like the best of a bad bunch.

Does anyone know how to find the male/female ratios?

It's quite demoralising to spend time messaging women who you genuinely think there might be some common ground with and expect to receive a reply from about 1 in 25, if that.

Everyone seems to go on about plenty of fish, but I've not had any joy there myself.

I had a long chat with some friends (single men) the other night and the conclusions were:
-internet dating wasn't real life
-it was all a numbers game
-don't worry about rejection; it's pretty much guaranteed most of the time
-speed dating was good
-one of them said that on a Wednesday then if he had nothing else to do then he'd go to his local speed dating

It's also worth asking everyone you know if they know of any single people that they could put you in touch with. That's what "the rules" suggested and it's worth a try. Don't be shy about it!
