as pointed out by meer53 in #11 it was all in the Ts&Cs so instead of Singapore scamming the OP should have been posting "I ticked the box to say I agreed to all the terms and conditions but I had not actually read them"

    You're talking nonsense.

The transaction was covered by the 'Verified By Visa' process.

If there is any risk, then why don't BA, Emirates, Virgin, Etihad and all the other airlines require the card at check in?

BA do ask , they have asked me a few times , however when booking a ticket for someone else online they always ask if the card holder is the person travelling .
A couple of times I havent had the card with me , but luckily have always managed to get over it

  • Please find the T&Cs taken from the making a booking on the singaporeair (dot) com site. I strongly advise you to remove the word scammer as SQ are very clear in the terms of contract and you could end up with serious repercussions .
I draw your attention to points 4.6 and 4.7

4.1 You may make reservations for up to 7 passengers in Economy and 4 passengers in Business and First Class for SQ/MI flights. For itineraries containing flights operated by other airlines, 4 passengers in Economy and 2 passengers in Business and First class.
4.2 Infants (under 2 years at the time of travel) and children (2 to below 12 years at the time of travel) must travel with an accompanying adult. Tickets booked through the Singaporeair.com Online booking facility must be made under the same reservation.
4.3 Reservations are subject to the applicable fare conditions and the seat vacancies in that fare group.
4.4 You will be issued Electronic Ticket for the booking made on singaporeair.com
4.5 You must pay at the time of reservation. Fares and taxes will be quoted and charged in the currency displayed in the fare quote. Credit cards issued by Visa, MasterCard, Diners and American Express may be used for reservations. However, these credit card options are not available in every departure city.

4.6 For Electronic Ticket, you must present the credit card that was used to purchase the Ticket and your passport at check-in. If you fail to produce the purchasing credit card for verification, SIA reserves the right to deny the ticket holder(s) from boarding.

4.7 The credit card holder must be in the travelling party.

4.8 Carriage and other services performed by SIA are subject to the SIA Conditions of Contract and Notices and General Conditions of Carriage, as amended by these Conditions of Use, which form part of and are to be read together with the Conditions of Contract and Notices and General Conditions of Carriage. By making a reservation through the Singaporeair.com Online booking facility, you agree to be bound by the SIA Conditions of Contract and Notices and General Conditions of Carriage and these Conditions of Use. These documents are available in the SIA Web Site.
  • Probably wasted on the OP Eloquent flyer - they have got it in their head that Singapore were wrong and they were right.

Irrelevant what any other airlines does or does not - Singapore require the card to be presented - Ive had to show it myself coming back from Brisbane myself with them - if you dont comply you buy a new ticket and get a refund later maybe.

If you dont like their rules then dont fly with them. I find them great though

Totally agree with all points Jeff. SQ are extremly professional on the ground and in the air. Tip for all future passangers. Please don't get irrate and vent your anger out at check-in it wont help you at all. Airlines have a tough enough job keeping you all safe and monitoring more that you can ever believe.
Op. you would have enough to say if any of the airlines were lax and didn't follow proceedure. The T&Cs are there for YOUR benefit also you know.
If someone had stolen your card and used it to fund someone elses flight ticket, you would be jumping up and down :j stating the airline didn't do their due diligence. So either way the airline can't win with you can they.
As I said before, there are lawyers lurking just waiting for an opportunity to pounce and make lots of money off your back for stating an untruth. As in your case the word scam. If I were you I would remove that allegation.
  • I am new here and would like to offer tips and help to people who intend to fly. This thread isn't the place, any idea where I can offer my help, experience and advice to keep you all safe and aware whilst you go off on your flights? :A

Why is it that whenever you see the word scammers in the title, it never is? Its usually the OPs fault, but of course anyone who points that out is then given abuse

You could start a new thread, but it might be better just to lurk for a while and respond to questions.

Usually but not always the case.
I have seen cases where the ops have a legitimate reason to warn others.
One of my relatives just happens to be a high court judge and sometimes 'not always' but the ops are correct and justified in posting 'scammer details' to help others.
I suppose it comes down to who has the deepest pockets at the end of day. But if you have the evidence to substantiate any of your claims then you have nothing to fear. In the case of the op who accused SQ of scamming is greatly mistaken and would not stand a chance in any legal altercation.
Any of the other cases mentioned on here would need both sides of the coin to be examined carefully, before jumping to any conclusions and on either side.
  • My friend used my card to pay for a ticket to south africa. As the card holder needed to be present with the card when tickets were picked up, I had to travel to London with her to sort it out the week before :) Was a good excuse for a shopping trip
