Singapore Airlines - beware?

Thought I'd warn any potential customers of a ploy that this outfit is currently catching people out with.
I bought my son a ticket to travel back to the UK from Brisbane.
£680.
When he got to the airport to check in, he was asked for the card used to pay for the ticket.
Obviously he didn't have it and they wouldn't let him fly.
They offered to refund the money but that would take 10 days.
So I had to book another ticket with another airline and now I have to sit and wait for my refund.
No other airline expects the ticketholder to necessarily be the holder of the credit card - what are Singapore Airlines up to?
And why does a refund take 10 days?

I thought most airlines needed the credit card it was booked on. I could be wrong.0

Pick up the ticket?
Last time anyone did that was 1976.0 -
It's pretty common, and designed to reduce credit card fraud.
Hardly a scam.Legal team on standby0 -
You're talking nonsense.
The transaction was covered by the 'Verified By Visa' process.
If there is any risk, then why don't BA, Emirates, Virgin, Etihad and all the other airlines require the card at check in?0 -

You are very rude. malkie76 is correct.0 -
I think this is quite common nowadays for various things because of credit card fraud, you'd be annoyed wouldn't you if some crook had been buying flight tickets, holidays etc on your card and no checks were made. I've come across this even for train tickets i've bought off redspottedhanky.com, you have to put your card in the machine when you collect your tickets, also some of the attraction tickets you buy expect the person who's paid for the tickets to be in the group of people wanting to go in the theme parks. In our travel agents if the holiday is ticket on departure you can't have your tickets unless you produce the credit/debit card you paid on and if the name on the card isn't the same as the tickets they have to produce the person whose card it is.
I would imagine it says in singapore airlines t&cs in the small print about presenting the card used to pay for the ticket.0 -
Hardly think Singapore Airlines could be called scammers. You'll be refunded, can't see the problem ? Did you read the Terms and Conditions when you booked the flight ? Thought not.
Oooh, just found this :
If your ticket is paid by a third-party who is not travelling with you, the cardholder is required to present the credit / debit card used for the ticket purchase, at the nearest Singapore Airlines ticketing office or at check-in counter, for verification before travel commences. The cardholder would need to sign a Letter of Indemnity (LOI) in the presence of our staff.0
