I don't know of any airline that has no complaints at all, do you? It does not mean that they are not still an excellent airline (as judged by industry experts and their passengers).

Oh well, lesson learned eh ?
Still don't think Singapore Airlines will be quaking in their boots about your rant. Or anyone elses for that matter, think how many satisfied customers they must have. I'm one of them.

    No they don't.

Please explain then how someone would purchase a ticket for a family member in another country - other than by Paypal!

Emirates Customer Service laughed at the ludicrousnes of Singapore Airlines policy.

Guess i should complain to emirates then for wasting precious minutes of my time in dubai when they asked to see my credit card although im pretty sure this customer service person is actually wrong.

I thought it was common knowledge that an airline may ask you to produce a card.

Ive flown countless times and only been asked twice, but the point is, I have been asked, and you never know when you might be asked and therefore should make sure you have the card on you.

If you dont check the T&Cs then YES that is your fault. Talk about not taking any responsibility for yourself.

Last year I flew with Hawaiian Airlines who do not accept uk credit cards on their website so I had to use my sisters canadian one. However they confirmed to me that this was ok.

If this circumstance ever came up with another airline I would always check first if it is ok to do - which you clearly did not do. You are lucky to get a refund.

I flew Onur air last weekend which is a ticket less airline and was advised at time of booking to take the same credit card used to the airport, it wasn't required but glad I had it with me just in case.

    10 days for a refund?

Scam or not - think how many times ####censored for legal reasons#### and the word Scammers will feature on google as a result of this tiresome little thread!

    Mission accomplished!

Well done!! Expect them to come knocking...

People who use fake names to post critical comments about companies on websites may not be as anonymous as they think, as firms use the courts to unmask online accusers.

MoneySavingExpert, a British personal finance site with 5 million readers, was forced to hand over personal details about three users calling themselves Againstjpc, GomerPyle and Ladybirds, following a London court ruling in August. The three wrote comments on the website accusing JPC Group Sales Ltd., an affiliate of a U.K. publishing company, of being a “criminal enterprise” and “a scam,” the company said in court filings.
  • was he picking up the ticket at the airport? then i'd expect to be asked for the card
    This is a good point.

To the person who bought a ticket for his son.

I have worked for an airline for over 25 years (not SQ) There are a few things which you have not clarified on this thread and a few things you need to be very aware of.
    1. You have thrown a comment regarding the said airline as a scammer, be careful my friend. This is slanderous and without actual evidence that the airline deliberately misled you and took your money with dubious intent you are looking towards the airline taking YOU to court. Either rephrase, or prove that the airline scammed you or remove the post. There are law firms who chase threads and encourage the offended party (in this case would be SQ) to sue the offender (you)
We have actually blacklisted abusive passengers and just so you know, the list gets sent to the other airlines.
Any airline can refuse at their discretion to accept a pax.
    2. You don't state how old your son was, if he was travelling as a UM (unaccompanied minor) then he would have no reason to have a credit card but it this would have been sorted at time of booking as you as the legal guardian.
We don't as a rule ask the passenger to show his/her credit card at check-in only their passport or in if travelling within the EU it would be the ID card if they are flying within the EU (UK are part of the Shengen treaty and you need to check if your passport allows you entry without a visa for instance if you are living in Paris and have a French ID yet your passport is Moroccan, the UK boarder will refuse the ID card and insist on the Passport which must contain the visa for entry)
If your son is adult and was picking his ticket up at the airport, then yes the staff would normally ask for the credit card details of the booking. You must understand that the security is paramount. On the T&Cs there must have been written somewhere about booking with credit cards and who can pick up the ticket.
Normally the check-in staff could have phoned you directly to sort this out or you would have had a place to make a note that you were actually paying the ticket for your son.
I am sorry you went through all this and do sympathise your frustration and anger, and all being said. Please think twice about placing slanderous remarks about a company, no matter how angry you are.
All airlines have a complaint policy and I am sure if you write a constructive letter putting your views forward sometimes the airline will sympathise and send you a free ticket. I know we have on many occasion.
    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards
