I am already on EDF's 'Energy Assist' social tariff because I am classed as being in fuel poverty (ie I spend more than 10% of my income on domestic fuel charges).
Does anyone know if I will just continue on this or will I have to apply for the new Warm Home Discount?

    - sorry - just read the last but one post which answers my question!

The same story as before with social tariffs - mostly on a need to know basis.
British gas, Scottish power & E.on have no information on their websites about warm home discount, just a bit of small print in a corporate press release.

I get the higher rate DLA and have been in receipt of the Cold Weather Payments for the last 2 years, can anyone tell me if I qualify for this payment? I am with Southern Electricity on a duel fuel tariff. I have been seaching the web for the last few hours and found very little information which is of any help to me. I understand it is the weekend but most of these fuel suppliers are available to take my money at the weekend, why not to answer a question!

Energy suppliers participating in the scheme

The electricity suppliers involved in this scheme are: Atlantic, British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Equipower, Equigas, Manweb, M&S Energy, npower, Sainsbury's Energy, Scottish Gas, Scottish Hydro, ScottishPower, Southern Electric, SSE, Swalec and Utility Warehouse,
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I presume one has to meet both criteria sections(as below)to qualify?

    i.e.

    Criteria - Section 1

    Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
    Income Support
    Income related employment support allowance.

    Criteria – Section 2

    Long Term Incapacity Benefit
    Severe Disablement Allowance
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for yourself
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for a child living with you
Have a child who was under 5 on the 1st of April 2011 living with you (born on or after 1 April 2006)

My issue is the 'Long Term Incapacity Benefit'. People who are already on e.s.a(would justify long term) cannot receive Incapacity Benefit, right?

It appears like this new scheme is taking over from the previous 'Essentials tariff' with British Gas.

    http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/our-tariffs/essentials-programme.html

So, one still needs to be in receipt of 2 qualifying benefits.

So, those who are receiving 2 benefits, who are better off than those with only 1 benefit qualify. Or, am I missing something?
  • The criteria is a bit ridiculous as you cannot claim long term incapacity benefit and income support or jsa.

My mother is on long term incapacity benefit has been for almost 20 years, will she qualify ?

Going by the EDF site then no pensioner will qualify due to be unable to meet any of the requirements of the first criteria even if low income but will still have to meet the increased costs this will add to utility bills, nothing comes for free, who the hell thought this up.

If you receive only the guaranteed credit element of Pension Credit, you automatically qualify for the Warm Home Discount rebate, so you don’t need to do anything.

They don't have to meet any of the criteria as that's for Warm Home Discount – Support Plus only.
