Finally got through to Npower this morning after ringing twice yesterday and being on hold for 1.5 hours and 45 minutes respectively...
Anyway they told me that we qualify for the discount...:j...My OH gets high rate DLA and we get Income Support with a disability premium included...
BUT...We wont get it credited to our electricity account until march...
It might sound like Im moaning but surely it would have been useful to get it during the coldest months?
Good luck to everyone else who is trying to get this discount, my advice is check your eligilbility on your electricity providers website prior to ringing them then you are more sure of your claim and armed with a bit of knowledge as it seems by some previous posts its all a bit of a minefield and some energy companies customer services advisor's are giving out conflicting and confusing information...But do be prepared for a long wait on the end of the phone...:):heartpuls Gains & £'s saved..Far too many to mention! Many people are confused and understandably so. The capacity for the energy provider [ call centre phone jockey reading from the scripted screen ] to give you a straight answer wiil largely depend on how much you help yourself before ringing up.
Apart from having the administratively important info clearly laid out ready to quote such as Acc No etc the more critically important thing is to do the homework in advance and find if you are in the (1) core or (2) broader group. Knowing this before you ring will mean even the poor ' wage slave ' in the call centre should be able to give you the information correctly first time, and make a decision right there and then.
If anyone wants to make their eyes~bleed~and~head~expode .. .. read this for the nitty-gritty.
LAST NOTE: Energy providers have almost no wriggle room in the (1) Core GroupDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. True but some people get billed monthly British Gas have energysmart for example, you submit meter readings and a few days later you get billed. Also it makes no difference if you pay by direct debt your bills will be higher in March/April but this is usually reflected in you direct debt paymentsBut this is about when you will get the bill you the winter months, or at least the early ones.0

No they won't be, That is the whole point of fixed monthly DD. It evens out your payments over the year (if the level is set correctly). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
No I know you dd payments even out I was just saying that your bills will be higher because you consume more in winter months but the payment of £120 makes no difference whether its paid in July or Feb if you pay by dd or energysmart
The bold bit you highlighted in my post I meant you get higher bill which you do you just dont pay it all at ounce with dd paymentNo they won't be, That is the whole point of fixed monthly DD. It evens out your payments over the year (if the level is set correctly).0 -

YES...If you pay by quarterly bills...but for those of us who struggle to afford to do that and are on pre-payment meters etc it would have been better to get the discount sooner...:heartpuls Gains & £'s saved..Far too many to mention! Needless to say I LOVE MSE! :heartpuls

Hi guys
Sorry we were a bit slow off the mark following the BBC news story at the weekend and for some of the duff info given when customers contacted us.
Just to let you know, our website has now been updated with details/eligibility of the scheme. It's under Existing Customers and is next to bottom of the left hand menu.
There's already some excellent advice on this thread and thanks for this. Thought I'd mention a few bullet points that might be of interest.
Warm Home Discount is a Government led scheme aimed at offering support to vulnerable electricity customers who are likely to be at risk of fuel poverty.
There's two ways to receive the discount.
Firstly, we're working with the DWP to identify customers receiving the guaranteed credit element of pension credit.
These customers need not apply and will automatically receive the discount. A letter will be sent directly from the DWP advising this.
Secondly, E.ON electricity customers who don't receive the guaranteed credit element of pension credit but who meet certain other criteria may also apply.
To be eligible, the customer or their partner must be receiving one of the benefits in section 1 below; or one of the benefits in section 2 and one from section 3.
Section 1
State Pension Credit.
Child Tax Credit (where relevant income is £16,190 or less).
Section 2
Income related employment and support allowance.
Income Support.
Income based Job Seekers Allowance.
Section 3
Pensioner Premium.
Child Tax Credit (including disability or severe disability elements).
Disabled child premium.
Disability or severe disability premium.
Child under 5 living at property.
Hope this is of interest. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
