  • A WHD year is legally defied as from April 1st to 31st March
Suppliers are legally obligated to pay the WHD rebate by to both the the Core & Broader groups by the 31st March of the supply year
    Both Core group & Broader group discounts are identical / Scheme year 1 - £120 / Scheme year 2 - £130 / Scheme year 3 - £135 / Scheme year 4 - £140
All WHD rebates must be credited directly to [ other than customers with pre-payment meters or who have moved to another supplier ] the customers account
Suppliers must tell Ofgem how they intend to make payments [ PPM ] in these cases, and are expected to minimise the risk of cheque fraud

It is important to note that no customer is entitled to a Broader Group rebate payment from their supplier, even if the customer meets the eligibility criteria set. Suppliers are given the discretion to target vulnerable customers they believe should receive a Broader Group rebate, within the scheme's parameters that support should be given to those in fuel poverty or a fuel poverty at risk group.

  • I was told by BG that the essential tariff won't finish till Jan or Feb 2012 for existing customers and they will be notified so it will give us a time to choose new tariff. I guess the next option is to apply for Web saver (6% discount instead of 10% for social tariff) online.

It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

Scottish Power have now published their Warm Homes Discount criteria, but you can't apply until 1 November. Hit the phones then, as you don't want to miss out on the offer.

(Link removed as it has now disappeared)

Only BG have done the decent thing (amazingly) and opened it to all comers.

The suppliers also seem to be using it to retain customers - if you Broader Group and you apply now, you won't get it until March 2012 and you will need to re-apply if you change suppliers in the meantime. As most of the suppliers limit the availability, this means that you will be tied in to your current supplier until Spring.

Yes, it was. I also saw it yesterday.

    HERE's Google's cached version.

They've obviously pulled it for now.

  • See #71 this is a new feature [ at least to myself ] and an important one. Malc from EON said """ These customers need not apply and will automatically receive the discount. A letter will be sent directly from the DWP advising this """.

Whether or not this applies to all energy suppliers is not clear but I assume if it is to become procedure it will apply to all. Why the DWP are doing it I assume will be to do with disclosure issues ref Data Protection.

  • Hi

Sorry if this has already been answered but, Anyone on Guaranteed pensions credits do not to do anything for any company, the DWP will alert the suppliers to who is on it and then over next few months a non refundable payment will be made onto the elec account only of £120. Any other funds that have been mentioned by any company will not be part of warm home but done on a company basis. You may be required to supply your mpan number which can be found on your bills or by calling supplier

There is other money available through certain criteria that is likely to be benefit based. This is not automatic so you will need to contact your company to be let them know your circumstances, evidence may be requested

Hiya Companymole, you are categorically saying that the DWP will hand over individuals personal benefit information to the suppliers ?

They will identify customers eligible for the Core Group payment, yes. This is legitimate and will ensure maximum take up for this payment amongst the Core Group.
