What a load of over-reactionary bollox on this thread, stretching doesn't permanently disfigure you, take the plugs out and it will return to normal size, he's a teenager, if he wants to express him self non permanently (mad hair colours, piercings etc) now's the time, if he wants to have a conservative job when older, he can take them out.

    well said!!

Thank you for all your input.

My mind has been put at rest regarding it shrinking back (hopefully) to a normal size when he gets fed up! He is at 6mm at the moment and I have told him although I would rather it was still the smaller one, he tells me he isn't going any bigger. I shall watch closely to see. He has had his hair cut so it is now more visible which should make things easier for me to keep a check on it.
  • My son had a stretcher in, now he's got a tunnel, I'm pretty sure he told me anything above 8mm won't go back to how it was. He also had his tragus and septum pierced. Last night he sneezed and one of the metal balls off his original septum bar, shot out of his nose, he said 'oh I wondered where that'd gone, it's been missing about 4 weeks' Boys are lovely creatures aren't they?
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game

  • Yes, but people want the best for their child, well I do anyway and letting your child have the best they can, means making that life choice at a later age, so they get the other life choices they might not have thought about at the younger age.

What happens if he gets to 18 and decides he wants to be a police officer for example, or many of the others things that he won't be able to do.

At 14 you can not make these kind of life changing decisions.

This is bordering on hysteria to be honest, he has only stretched his ears a tiny bit so far and his whole life is down the drain by some peoples estimation, not just yours Lotus Eater. If he stretches them too big and takes them out and they never go back to normal he will look stupid, but I doubt the Police Service would stop someone from joining on account of "having big ear holes" Anyway, the people whose ears are all floppy have probably had at least 30mm of stretching, and had them in for years.

I have my labret pierced, two ear piercings in each one, have had my nose and tongue pierced at other times, and have managed to complete A levels and progress through a series of better and better paid administrative, customer focused jobs, with real people looking at my horribly disfigured face.

Piercings just aren't the big deal they used to be, people need to calm down. I got a job with pink hair, my labret and nose pierced, on one condition, I dyed my hair a natural colour, or at least half of it.
