What happens if he gets to 18 and decides he wants to be a police officer for example, or many of the others things that he won't be able to do.
At 14 you can not make these kind of life changing decisions.

He has informed me that the large size is 6mm and he has told me he wants to put a tunnel into it when it is ready.
I am not against personal expression but as he is only 14 I feel he doesn't really understand the possible future implications of what he is doing now. I just don't want him to regret doing this in ten years time. BUT he is a typical teen and of course knows everything! So trying to reason with him in nigh on impossible - he just thinks Im a boring old fogey!!0 -

My mum would not have reasoned with me at 14. Maybe when I was 16 or 17. At 14 I would have had to have done what she said.0

Does he actually want to be a police officer? If not, it isn't exactly relevant what their requirements are.
BTW, I was born with a deformed earlobe. It apparently looks similar to what would happen if an ear tunnel got torn and then healed.
I have NEVER had anyone query whether it is due to body mods, or express any concern over the shape of it, and I usually wear my hair back in a chignon or bun, as I am not embarrassed by it at all. If I wanted to have it changed to look more like the other ear, the actual procedure is pretty much the same - I have even been told that it would be cheaper, less painful and would give almost the same effect if I were to have two stretchers.
If nobody has even thought to ask me in interview about an obviously different ear, why should someone with a tiny tunnel be noticed and judged?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

It wont stop him from being able to be a policeman or serve in the armed forces, you have to declare any permanent body modifications to both and it certainly wont hamper your application unless you have 'I HEART BNP FORVER' or facial tattoo's.
I know a policeman with two full tribal sleeves who sports at least 5 facial piercings on days off.

I don't believe you'd be allowed to a police officer or be in certain parts of the armed forces with them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
