absolutely we do - but not everyone has the same reaction to a person's appearance.0 -

But if, for example, I thought the wearing of a 1980s style velvet hat were totally ridiculous, I wouldn't let that fact influence my opinion as to whether you were a good person or an incompetent in your chosen career - I would make a judgement based upon what you say and do, not the daft (or otherwise) hat.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I think this fashion is abhorrent and seeing stretched ears makes me feel ill. Horrible. However, that's my subjective opinion.
Objective information, my daughter did this when she was around 17/18 and got to the stage the holes in here ears were quite big  You could maybe have passed a roll of polo mints through. However, she's now 21 and the holes have closed up completely so no lasting damage.0 -

It depends what size you stretch them to...sometimes they dont go back,it depends on each person individually too. The worry i have is that the 14yr old boy may be stretching his lobe too fast and that may cause the lobe to tear. I would make him take it out.0 -

Of course there wont be any with stretchers in, because like all jewellery you cant keep them in on duty.

Well isn't there just some misinformed, judgemental claptrap in this thread then?
Me? 38, 2 stretches had for the best part of 12 years. Both 6mm. I work in a high school where my ears are perfectly acceptable as is my wrist tattoo. I do remove my facial piercings before I go into school but my stretches stay. Most people are surprised that the 2 diamonds in my ears are not large studs. They look just like studs, and with smaller diamond studs also in my ears they blend in nicely.
Personally I see no harm in experimentation with piercing because put simply - they heal. This isn't a tattoo that will be there for life, its a hole, a non permanent hole that removing the tunnel from will cure providing he doesn't stretch too much (over 10mm). Seek out some websites and some advice on safe stretching. Rather than freaking out show him how to achieve what he wants safely and sensibly on the proviso he goes no bigger than say 6mm. Work with him, not against him. Teens are difficult creatures, choose your battles wisely and for me this one isn't worth fighting.0 -
Good old judgemental MSE. The opinions on here do make me laugh sometimes... (love the 'Facebook is the devil' threads too)
For the record, it depends how much he stretches his ears whether they stay that way or not.
I've had my ears stretched to around 1cm but since I took them out (lost the jewellery and they closed up p quick) they've closed quite a lot and are only about 1-2mm now but thats permanent.
Oh, and I have various piercings and tons of tattoos including an arm sleeve and I am sorry to disappoint you but i'm not doomed to minimum wage purely because of my appearance (not that there is anything wrong with folk who want to do minimum wage jobs)Proud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -
My sister's partner has stretched holes in his ears and he's senior in the Civil Service so clearly its not affected his chances...*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

its really no a big deal is it??? hes 14 and i bet hes just trying to stand out from the crowd, there are worse things he could be doing.
Most stratches under 10mm will go back down to a normal 1.6 hole if reduced the right way - remove, put a 6mm in, remove put a 4mm in and so on........ its really not the end of the world, the smelling thing is quite normal too, with any piercing it needs to be removed and cleaned reg, advise him to get a cotton bud, wet it and clean the hole with tea tree....
the more you moan at him the more hell want to keep it. my lad got up to a 12mm an dwithin a few week went back to a 4mm as the novelty wore off. Be thankful hes not into tattoos yet lol0
