I have to say I think ear stretching looks totally disgusting and I would not allow a 14 year old to do it. If theyre going to do something like that I think they should atleast wait til they are 16 or 18.

I wasnt allowed to even get a 2nd piercing in my ear until I was 16, and I wouldnt have dared to before that because my mum would have gone mad and made me take it out anyway! Then when I was 16, she came with me and held my hand :)

Ahh, what everybody wishes their beautiful lively child to become-a middle manager!

As long as he stretches sensibly, his ear is likely to go back to a normal size from about 8mm or smaller - although some people find their ears close up from even larger sizes.

Personally, I think that as he is doing it anyway you probably can't stop him so it would be a good idea to let him do it safely. That's better than just shoving things in - which he is doing if his ear is weeping - as that will do some damage.

The safest way to stretch which will not damage his ears is to only do small jumps of 1mm (or less) every 4 weeks or longer. He needs to use oil, such as jojoba oil, which can be bought cheaply on Ebay. And he needs to use high quality plugs, preferably ones in decent material and not acrylic.

Unless you're going to do some kind of ear inspection every night you won't know if he's stretching or not, and to do that you'd need to make him take his stud out as some can look normal but not be. And that will irritate his ear and do far more damage than gentle stretching.

FWIW, I work in management and have 4 stretched lobe piercings and 19 (21 on Monday) piercings in total

Yes, but people want the best for their child, well I do anyway and letting your child have the best they can, means making that life choice at a later age, so they get the other life choices they might not have thought about at the younger age.

What happens if he gets to 18 and decides he wants to be a police officer for example, or many of the others things that he won't be able to do.

At 14 you can not make these kind of life changing decisions.

I don't normally judge but I work in a conservative industry, and whilst I have hired people with assorted tatts and piercings, they are all for back office coding roles, if a candidate turned up with big holes in their ears for a client facing role they wouldn't get a 2nd interview.

Which is why a lot wear the fake plugs.

Tapers should not be worn as jewellery. Ban him from doing that.

Could you not have the fake plugs as a half way house OP?

If you can't stop him from doing this then will this just be the start, who knows what will be next. My dd wanted a tattoo ....I told her when she keeps herself she can do what she wants but the money stops if she got one, she wants to go to uni and could not afford it otherwise . The thing is she knows that I really meant what I said. I will not pay her good money to fill the coffers of tattoo artists and ruin her body in the process.I work too hard for her and her sis to waste money on body 'art' if that is what you can call it more like bloody body tart if you ask me.

  • So you would deliberately destroy your child's future because you think she would look like a wh0re if she got a tattoo?

    Seems rather spiteful to me.

Do you seriously think that only tattooed people have sex? She could just as easily get drunk, take drugs and screw everything in sight as soon as she is out of your command.

If she is 18, it's her body, not yours. She could quite easily already have tattoos, just keeping them hidden. Perhaps she'll get a genital piercing instead - will you be insisting on examining her every week until she graduates to ensure that she hasn't defiled herself?

The chances are that the OP's son changes his mind about the stretching. Especially as he'll get annoyed with it always being uncomfortable if he's going about it in such a lackadaisical manner. Send him to a decent piercing place and they will be able to convince him to either stop until later, or to do it safely.

He might decide he wants cartilage piercings in his ears, maybe eyebrow, lip or nose piercings. Or get a Prince Albert.

    Or not.

But it certainly won't influence whether anyone has sex or not.
