I'm surprised my latest email from MSE only gives prices for high usage iPhone 5S contracts. If you're saving money you might want to look at lower usage tarifs and save a fortune.

I've recently ordered a 5S from T-Mobile with an upfront payment of £419.99 and then £7 per month for the contract for 2 years. This works out at £24.50 per month.

Sure, it doesn't have unlimited this and that but do you really need it?

Have you researched how much data you will potentially be using? A cheap contract can end up being a very expensive one - and you can't escape either. 24 month contracts are not the way forward here, it's basically encouraging people to get into debt for a phone they can't really afford in the first place. But it's a lucrative market when you are looking at affiliate income etc. IMO.

I hardly use any data allowance when roaming so the 250mb per month will do me easily. I have it picking up local wi-fi at work and at home.

I do agree you have to be careful not to go over any part of your allowance though. And the way they can suck in people who can't really afford it. But if you're careful and do know you can work within the tarif you've chosen, a contract like this is hard to beat.

Of course, do you really need the latest, most expensive phone on the market? Most people probably don't. I happen to need one due to the work I do.
  • Hi

I had my iphone 5 nicked recently and I have 18 months to run on the contract with vodafone. Could anyone point me in the general direction of good iphone 5 deals. (just the phone)

    Thanks
  • My 4-year-old, carefully nurtured 3GS is rapidly descending into old age and the battery is dying - it's finally time to upgrade.

I'm going for a 64GB 5s (yes - I can justify it ;-) and I'm happy paying a hefty whack upfront - I'm looking for the cheapest overall deal.

I've found a deal through mobilephonesdirect.co.uk (MSE listed) - £280 for handset, and then £43/month for a 12-month Vodaphone 600 min, 500MB, unlimited txt contract, which works out at just under £800 for the year.

This all looks a little "too good to be true", so does anyone have any opinions? Also, I've always dealt directly with phone companies in the past, never with a 3rd party supplier. They say the contract will be directly with Vodaphone, I'll be able to port my number from Orange. Are there any other gotchas I should look out for? I will be using the phone in Europe from time-to-time, but Vodaphone's data roaming doesn't look too expensive.

I'd be grateful for any feedback anyone can give!

Looks good at about £7 p.m. for the airtime if you really need unlimited texts and 600 minutes.
500Mb+150m+250texts you can get for free.

This is correct for the airtime. The phone is supplied by mobilephonesdirect.

Apparently you can get £31.50 cashback by going through TCB, but I am not sure as Quidco exclude 5S/5C.

    Yes, no problems.

That's a good deal - where's it from? Though I really do need >250 txts

I'd noticed the TCB deal (thanks!), but there's mixed reviews about reliability of payment. I'd be happy to take a chance and treat it as a bonus if it does come through.

http://ovivomobile.com/offer/ovivo-for-phones/ (1000Mb you see is Novermber promotion).
It's one-off £30 (IIRC) for the sim card that is credited to your account. Extra texts are 5p.
    The same Vodafone signal.

Does anyone know anything about mobilephonesdirect that are listed on the MSE cheap iPhone link?

They've come up with a very good offer of the iPhone 5S 16gb on an Orange contract £134.99 up front for the phone and £27.99 per month but clicking the little question mark comes up with details that some prices on the site use cashback to calculate the monthly price. So is the £27.99 the amount I will be charged? or is that after cashback? If its after Cashback how much is it before cashback as I can't find the details and trying to contact the company has so far been in vain.

Anyone know? Any views on the company?

    Thank you.
  • Am I the only who thinks the best deal for an iPhone 5S is to buy it outright and use a giffgaff £10pm SIM? That would make it £549 + £120 (£10pm x 12 months) = £669 for a year. Am I missing something as this seems good to me? I'm happily using giffgaff already on my 4.5 year old iPhone 3GS.

This is the road I have taken. I bought my iphone 5 outright last year, rode out the rest of my contract and then switched to giff gaff. I've been with them a few months now and they are brilliant. I could easily survive on their £7.50 deal but have the £10 one just incase.
Need to start saving the pennies now to buy the iphone 6 when it comes out as my phone will be 2 years old by then so won't be worth an awful lot when I sell it. Don't want to go back to being tied into another 2yr deal!
If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!
