ive bought those milk stick things from amaz@n before, hth x0

Incidentally - does anyone know where to get those little sachets of UHT milk you get at cafes / offices? I wouldn't know where to start looking!
check on approved foods, they frequently sell large boxes of those little round teeny cups of them with the pull off plastic 'lid' for a quid or two. i have bought them on occassion when it's worked out to be cheaper than buying uht milk from the shop as we pretty much only use it for coffee/tea when we have it . most likely if they have it, it will be in this section http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/coffee_tea_milk
however searching case price might turn them up and i'd also check in the new products and discount products section. i've done a quick search and can't see any right now but they do have them with some frequency as they sell a lot of catering products.
one thing about uht milk though, whilst i have found it can often be consumed past it's use before date, it can't hold out all that long so be sure to check the use before/best before date before buying anything from approved foods because they sell a lot of stuff that is short dated or out of date but the out of date stuff is for the best before which is the manufacturers opinion of when it's best not when it become inedible (indeed i've eaten things a few years past the best before and they were great!)
now use by is different plus anything with oil in it i avoid much after the best before date, but just a heads up to pay attention to that factor for dairy products.0 -
Sorry, haven't got time to real all of the newest messages but those who are using sticky tape to hold bubble wrap on might like to try lo-tack masking tape (or 'dab' normal tape onto your clothes first!) you'll find that it is strong enough to hold the bubble wrap but won't remove your paintwork when you remove them in the SpringThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

*Just sorted all the throws on the sofas and chair so they touch the floor so no under couch draughts, put the snuggly blankets over the back of each one and I am boiling hot so they keep you warm. Place looks nice and cosy with the (one working) fire light one.

I would go and have a look but we only have an outlet near us so they probably won't be in stock there until next summer! The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

I used to buy them from ebay, I've lost the sellers name but it may be worth you having a look there... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I've not been on mse very much this year as I've been really busy with work, but working outdoors this past few days I've noticed a real nip in the air which has made me realise that colder weather is approaching! Seems strange to be preparing for winter when I'm still buying summer clothes for going away on holiday next month!
Here's my list for this year:
Stock up on tins & packets
Stock up on batteries & ensure rechargeables are charged.
Get some more candles in.
Winter car kit still in car from last year (will need to check that food & drink isn't out of date!)
Wash fleece blankets that I use under bedding and as a makeshift curtain. Will put "curtain" back up once it's a bit cooler.
Check I have plenty of toiletries
Washed pillow protectors
Buy winter clothing- I have plenty of fleeces & warm socks, but hardly any jumpers, cardigans or long sleeve tops. Need proper base layers for work.
Bought new boots with ease! I struggle to find footwear that fits as I have awkward sized feet, but I managed to pick up a pair of leather boots from Asda for £38Expensive but I paid £28 for a non-leather pair from Matalan last year and they needed repaired within a few months.
Stock up on medicines, first aid etc
Finish tidying garden.
Finish de-cluttering room to make space for new clothes etc.
All HWB are kept together and easy to find.
Re-stock the freezer with lots of warming HM ready meals.
Think that lot should keep me occupied for a wee while0 -
I got my heated airer today so may get that out to play with tomorrow
not sure how much else I can achieve tbh.. it doesn't seem much of a to-do list but most of it requires money which I don't haveOr I need someone to do it for me

Evening, got a few bits sorted today, Got the kids new duvets, both 4.5 tog but i layer with blankets as appropriate in winter so not an issue but nice they have fresh new duvets as they were using hand me downs from when i lived at home atleast 5 years ago.
Also got a doorbell. Not really winter prep but it is for me as if im awaiting a parcel i need the doors open to hear the knock but the door bell can be situated near the family room so ill hear it ok meaning we can stay warm with the doors shut
Also dug out the dogs coat to take in. Makes me laugh, he is a big dog but short haired and a bit of a wuss so the coat to fit his length is too big around the body so need to add more velcro to it to tighten it so he will be snug on his winter walks :rotfl: bless him!
Got a tiler round to quote for the kitchen so getting a quote through the post for that. its 8m2 and we've already got the tiles so hoping the quote for the materials and labour isnt too bad. Plumber is coming next week to fit the radiator on.

Sounds like everyones almost excited for winter lol.
I'm getting a new kitchen ceiling tomorrow so am humming and erring whether to get some cushioned vinyl flooring to go over the wood flooring (stone underneathe that). My kitchen has never fully been done in 5 years because of the ceiling needing doing, so now is a good chance to have it all nice, and I have no heating source in there, an extra floor layering would warm it up. I bet it'll cost quite a bit though as it's a long kitchen. If it wasn't for the cats I would carpet... desicians desicians.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -

I've had carpet in the kitchen, never again ;-) . If you can afford it, I'd go for the vinyl, it will make a difference as well as being easy to clean, & put washable rugs on top to add warmth where you want it. My sister put cotton rugs in her cold kitchen at old house, & its was surprising how much warmth they added.
Its cold here this morning! Added a vest to DS2's back to school clothes & swapped the shorts we'd put in the pile last night to trousers.v0
