Preparing for winter III

Our boiler is booked for service this month. Saturday I felt rotten all day stinking cold and I felt so drained. I was in bed at 8.30pm and slept right round until 9.45 the following morning. Got rid of the cold but now need to re-stock on paracetamol, throat lozengers and the like!!
Still running the freezer down - I know it's taking longer than I anticipated but still I am getting there. I might be able to hold off until final week of September.
One thing I have noticed is that the cold water in the tap this last week has turned from slightly warmish to quite cool now and that is another sure sign that the underground temperature is cooling allot. We have leaves falling off the trees at the moment as well as leaves turning already!
I have got the boys (horses) sale coming up so I have put some money aside to get them a new heavy weight and medium weight (with neck cover) outdoor rug in the sale. That should see them through.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

 Hi Rising! Long time no speak!
 I've been trying to focus on saving money / cutting bills etc but have really missed having this thread to read - I picked up so many tips last year!:j (and hopefully still loads to learn!).
Hope things work out on the income side soon .....Rainy-Days wrote: »Our boiler is booked for service this month.
 Another thing to add!
Mine's under contract & gets serviced in December but this is the last year I can get it covered as it's too old :eek: - cover runs out in October so better see if I can find someone decent locally to service it. Thanks Rainy:T (hope you're feeling better)long janes
Does anyone know anywhere to get decent (and cheap) long johns?
Preferably online as quite a long way to town - although I will have to go up at some point before winter really arrives!
Also, I've been having big problems with damp the past couple of months  have finally figured out it's down to all the washing that's been hanging around upstairs (pants not being able to get it out at this time of year) and have - fingers crossed - solved the problem by fixing the window so it's always open a bit in that room .... but obviously don't want this in winter!
I've never had a problem before (even in winter when there's always stuff hanging around) - do you think it could be because the heating's usually on (downstairs only but it keeps upstairs reasonably warm)?Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Happy to say my electric fire still works
Hasn't been on since the start of the year!
One bulb needs replacing though and it's got plenty dust when you lift the flap down.
My kitten doesnt know what to make of it cos it's one that blows air out and none of my cats will sit infront of it, including her it seems.
Going to leave it on for 10 minutes and give it a good trial
*Off to make an Asda list of winter clothes for my daughter for when I get my next child benefit in. Noticed today she's gone up in socks so last years slipper socks and warm socks probably wont fit.
* Will see if her warm fleecy bed all in one still fits, if the legs are too short i'll cut the feet off.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Just re door curtains, this is my front and back curtains 6th winter and theyre still going strong. I think I paid £40 for lined brown ones form Argos and I've got one at the front and one at the back = 1 pair. I don't think I'll have to buy anymore for a long long time.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

i'm the same with some thing got lots like toiletries only thing we need before winter is deoderant and toilet rollsKnitting was going well - I was doing 10 rows a night but haven't managed any the last 3 nights..... think the list may be winning atm tho! Must do better!;)
And don't get me started on the loo roll mountain!:o (Actually I do need to buy another couple of packs (get the 18 pack ones from HM for £3.99) ......MarilynMonroe wrote: »Rising form the ashes I bought some long johns on ebay for £2.99 thats including postage x
Ohhhhh thanks Marilyn - I'll have a trawl though at the weekend. Don't need to be anything special, just really for dog walking!Continue learning to crochet - keeps me entertained during those dark evenings!
Ohhhhh I treated myself to a left-handed crochet course earlier in the year (funds from £2 coin pot;)) - I've always wanted to learn but could never find anyone to show me how to do it back to front IYKWIM.
I can now follow the videos online now but def need more practice!
Re the wee milk cartons - have no idea! I'll have a think but the only thing that springs to mind just now are - are there any cafes etc near you that you could ask to order you a box / if you could part buy a box from? Failing that, I guess powdered milk would be better than nothing (sure if you made some up in an airtight container it would be OK for the time you were at the stables).
Right - really must go & get on.... still to take the last few bits out of the car ready for the change tomorrow. Dreading it atm - I get really sentimental about all my cars & usually shed the odd tear on the way to the garageGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
