Preparing for winter III

The clothes come straight out of the washer into the dryer, just for a few minutes, to get all hot and steamy, then I whip them out carefully smoothing as I go, pop them over the racks, and they go all the way up the ceiling out of the way until morning. Then I take them down and fold them up and that's it. I would rather use the dryer for five minutes than spend time ironing them when they are dry, but that's just my choice, as I'd rather spend the money on the dryer than the iron.
...When I bought it years ago I fancied it would look nice with bunches of herbs or flowers drying from it, but I soon found it was much better to use it for its original purpose.
you're even more posh than i am, i've never had a dryer so i just use them as is but i don't buy stuff generally that needs ironing, i have an iron and a board...somewhere lol
i did find that anything that might wrinkle did well if it was shaken vigorously then put on a hanger on the pully (hook it through the fancy wrought iron at the end if you have that type) ours was invaulable for our cloth nappies for my daughter, i swear that thing was always full of clothes but always out of sight!
you're quite right though you could dry herbs from them, even hang sausages up to cure but you may want to have those things NOT coincide with wash day0 -
If you find a good price for the hooded cat bed could you post it please? I saw one for £5 at B&M so I took a special trip to Darlington and they didnt have any

I have ordered today from T3sco Direct
2 x hot water bottles - All last year I hunted for cheaper ones and never found them and went cold, so this year I got 2 for £3 each - they were reduced but still more than I wanted to pay but at least we will be warm
2 fleece blankets - couldn't put off buying them any longer.
I also brought the 6 taper holders and 12 taper candles for just under £6 which as I haven't been able to get out carbooting seemed like a very competitive price.
We decided that taper candles were more cost efficient than any other type. But I do have 2 wall candles which I got off freecycle and hubby put up today as well as a bag of tea lights, 2 yankee votives and some yankee tarts which hubby has got me for Christmas LOL
Thanks to huge organisational skills and this thread last year I really don't have all that much left to do.Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
MarilynMonroe, just to say that we have an elderly cat who has always had a fascination for cardboard boxes and carrier bags. She just loves to rub her nose on the corners of the boxes and dive inside carrier bags that have been left on the floor. Maybe your little puddytat would like an upturned box with a little doorway cut out? If you popped their blanket inside so it had their scent on it, it might save you spending anything at all!:hello:  please play nicely children !0

I've got a lovely 2 tier dark whicker bed so I'd like a nice bed to go with it. She's worth it :j My daughter has agreed to donate one of her baby blankets for now so she should be ok. Ideally she would be cuddling into my 3 other cats but they arent quite there with her yet *sigh* after 3 weeks I thought they'd all be best buds by now. My 2 eldest cats (16 and 13) are ok with her, its the youngest at 7 who's acting like a big jealous grumpy baby lol.
I'm getting a new kitchen ceiling on Wednesday so good chance to get
*curtains washed
*stock up food cupboards
*have a chuck out

Horrible 'back to school' cold this week about three weeks in to the new year. Luckily I (just) had enough provisions to see me through the weekend but it has been a reminder that I need to stock up on lemsips and stuff, check over my first aid kit and get a move on with all my remaining preparations.0

I think I'm nearly sorted out for winter.
Luckily I've loads of car deicer bought last year and never used (just hope cans still work) plus stuff for the paths and drive as well. Also got loads of seasoned wood for the woodburner and open fire.
We are waiting for DD's BF who is a builder to do some things for us. He is going to take down the ceiling in the dining room extension (flat roof) and put insulation board in then reskim plus replace kitchen and bathroom radiators for us with new and therefore improved ones. We've yet to measure and price up rads though:o
Started restocking my medicine stores today by getting beechams, cough medicine, strepsils and paracetamol in. Must make sure I've got tea tree oil in for gargling with as well.
Getting DD and her partner sorted is another matter though. They need to start getting ready but I've to be careful of being pushy about it. At least they've got curtains plus thermal linings plus the "tin foil thermal linings" from halfcost for our GD's room. Plus, as they're in a new flat they don't know how cold or warm it will be.0
