I spent last week decorating our very high hallway. I used the blown vinyl type of paper and I can't believe how much warmer it feels already. It was replastered a few years ago, so we just painted it. It looked OK but it is a huge space and the outside walls always felt cold to the touch. We decided it might make it feel a little warmer by adding the paper to the outside walls, and it has made it feel a lot cosier already. I plan on putting my bubble wrap on the windows then a thermal blind, followed by curtains. I've also fixed my energy bills with EDF Blue so hopefully, I might be able to save a bit on the gas this winter!
:hello:  please play nicely children !
  • Me and my daughter have been sneezing today... remind me to put Tena lady on my winter prep list will you? haha

  • Marilyn, do you have any friends with children who might have coats to swap, or even buy the coats off you for their children if they're still in good condition? I must get DS2 to try on his coats, but I'll be jolly fed up if they don't fit him as they were new last year with room to grow. I need a new coat for me, but will have to look at charity shops.
Hi, no no, I am an older mam, most women my age have kids whp've left home :o
I've filled a bag for the charity but she has got one coat I bought for ''later on'' which fits now so she should be ok. I used ot get her all in ones for the winter but she's a bit too big for those now. x

It does doesn't it? My daughters room was just emulsioned skimmed walls, and while it probably looked nice it's muchcosier now with wallpaper. I am going to do my bathroom in vinyl paper, I'd also love carpet in there but will wait till dd is older.

Marilyn.. could you put the coats on ebay if they are still nice and get a few quids back for a new one? What size does she need? My 2 y/o is wearing an age 4 coat this winter! She is just very big.

I have an ebay frenzy going on at the moment to shift some crap and fund my kitchen tiles. I need £400.. I will get it!

  • Spikyhedgehog - the dryer doesn't create any condensation. On the contrary it keeps a dampish corner of my landing much warmer and seems to dry it out.

The only faff is loading it up with clothes, just a bit time consuming to fit them all on to get maximum drying power. But that's prob because I have it in a corner so can't get round to reach the back of it.

Not sure how much it was as it was a pressie but it's much less guilt-inducing than switching in the tumble drier!

    Hope this helps,

I've not been here for ages but now it's September my mind is turning to winter prep.

I'll make a list & get cracking next week.

  • MarilynMonroe how old are your kids? If they are under 5 or so there are some fab clothing bargains to be had at NCT sales. You don't have to be a member to go, just a bit resilient with crowds as they get a bit busy.

Spikyhedgehog, I keep my dryer in the guest room and occassionally I have had condensation on the windows when using the heated dryer so I tend to open the window (one millimetre or so) and then keep the door shut. I have also noticed that the clothes dries quicker if you hang trousers and tops on hangers under the duvet cover and then I put a normal clothes rack without heating next to the dryer. It will all be dry in the morning.

Pigpen, I have had that heater for several years now and it's brilliant and it keeps the room warm as well. I put a duvet cover over the heater this way the clothes dries even quicker.

Do you just drape the duvet cover over the top or do you put it right over so the airer is completely inside the cover like a duvet would be?
