I got 5m of it for £6 on ebay (BIN) so that seemed too good to pass up. I can't actually do most of my downstairs though because a big open plan room has two large radiators that are like bathroom ones, ie you can see through to the wall. I remember from my childhood, my dad used exactly the same stuff in our house.

I've read that you can also use cardboard covered in tin foil. I'll give that a go. In fact, I wonder if just tinfoil would work?

Just catching up with this week's posts. My parents have their heating on a thermostat set at 16C I think, and it clicked on this week!
Please, can I ask, how do you do fleece curtain linings? do you attach them to the existing curtains or do you make them separately and hang them on another hook?.... I'm not sure how to do it, but it sounds like a great idea.

I suppose the cardboard version would be a lot sturdier and also have an insulating effect if you could get enough cardboard.

I just safety pinned them to the bottom of the header tape of the existing curtains when I did DD's for her:)

My heating kicked in this morning. But I then spent 2 hours sat on my front step this afternoon enjoying the warmth of the sunshine and the cool breeze. I only did this due to workmen in next door using a pneumatic drill which meant a vibrating house, a thumping headache and my ears ringing. I was waiting in for someone to come and collect something but they didn't show otherwise I would have gone out. The fellas will be back again tomorrow so I will be spending as much time as possible out of the house tomorrow ;)

DD has asked for another blanket for her bed so I've added another. My plan is to add blankets for the moment as she has a habit of getting sweating hot under the quilt during the night. I've put the quilt over my bedding. Its only a summer weight but thats all I need as I'd rather add blankets to mine as well rather than get a winter tog one which I then have to store when its not on the bed. ;)

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Tin foil on cardboard works really well, easier than just foil to attach to the wall. Car summer windscreen shades work too, just cut 2 slits for the brackets and pop over.
Also has the added advantage of being able to be lifted up and removed quickly. DD would do this it her bedroom when she had friends around as their homes didn't have it and she found it embarrassing that we did. When she moved out in January this year she made her own ones, so I knew she was grown up enough to stand on her own two feet ;)

This morning we have a light frost and it is cold. The house inside is warm. I know tomorrow it will be 1st September but to be honest with the way the weather is it feels like it is at least the end of September going into October!!

I also have leaves falling off my trees now in the garden and in the fields. We may be in for a harsh Autumn and an early winter!

That's what I've done if your cardboard is a snug enough fit it just wedges behind with a little blutack at top edges much easier than the fiddley foil on its own.

I am hoping to get flannelette or brushed cotton fitted sheets for the kids beds this week.

Got flannelette flat sheets last month which they use under their duvet as an extra layer,

We are all electric heating here which is expensive to run so anything I can do to make the house feel more snug is a bonus
