I'm going to use the Ikea Irma fleece blankets (now at £1.60) for sheeting for the children's beds this year. They aren't quite long enough to reach right to the bottom of the bed but that's ok because neither are the kids ;):)

Got our first bouts of cold in our house so the med box has took a battering, will have to get more. Its really chilly today but I refuse to even look at the heating till October. I normally try to keep the heating off until 1st November but if its starting already I can't see it happening this year!

We have our heating on 18c and it came on this afternoon, not surprised its cold out there, but only hall rad came on as others at moment are on freezing only as rooms not that cold. Hall one I cannot do anything with unfortunately and its coldest place in house along with kitchen due to back door being opened for the dogs. Will turn them up when we really need them, hopefully should not go down to freezing just yet, fingers crossed.

16c in here at moment with two smaller windows open at top, but am covered with quilt and dogs so very snug .
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

well i tested the hall storage heater last night as it did dip down to 5C, thankfully it works fine. i'll wait for the large one in the lounge til it's going to be about the same temp overnight again

we don't use the ones in the bedrooms we only open the doors about and hour before bed to take the edge off (we both sleep better in cool rooms) and i leave my daughters door cracked open at night during winter, mine i keep shut

so, as long as the lounge heater works we'll be set for winter, i'll wait to put the bubble wrap and extra curtains up for when it gets a bit colder outside. think i'll def make some cardboard shutters for the hall, bathroom and kitchen windows for overnight useage, i think my nosey neighbours would complain to the landlord if i left them up all the time :p

Another light frost here this morning, definate chill in the air last night.

Our Morrisons had Country Veg, Minestrone and Oxtail Soups tins reduced to 20p today so stocked up on a few for Winter.

Ordered Pips Winter coat, got the £10 padded jacket from Asdas online, looks cosy enough. Got some Welly socks for me from Dunnes, £4 for 2 pairs and they are nice and thick and long.

I think the first colds are about to strike us too Tink - itchy scratchy sore throats for last day or so :-(

Really must post my list I am working through.

I got my Flannelette sheets from Isme the other week when they were on offer but noticed the price has jumped right up again. I made the same mistake as you Spiky :rotfl::rotfl:

Lol! I'd already got 1 set for each of us too! Haven't actually used all of mine or DS1's yet...

Can I ask if anyone has seen any extra deep flannelette sheets anywhere??? It's what comes of letting DH buy a mattress, he didn't realise at the time that an extra deep one meant having to buy new sheets!!!
    Thanks!!
    xx

I haven't seen any, but I got over sized flat sheets to compensate - so, for my extra deep king size mattress, I have super king sheets.

Got some radiator foil today, and coincidentally the temp has definitely dropped, i'm wearing a cardigan for the first time in months. I still need to sort out some curtains. Was hoping that DH would have got a job before I had to get them, but perhaps not. : (

I've bought my blinds new, but all the curtains are CS or car boot finds. Most of them have needed new curtain heading, & all the fleece linings are new. But its saved me quite a bit.

Cold here - I did put the upstairs heating on the other day while I had a bath so I could check it - & discovered DS1 had turned his radiator off, so will all the downstairs ones are on before checking that! I did have to turn it up to 24 before it would come on.

Its only a summer weight but thats all I need as I'd rather add blankets to mine as well rather than get a winter tog one which I then have to store when its not on the bed. ;)
My duvet is a middle tog one, and I do the same - just put more blankets on rather than buy a heavier tog duvet. I inherited a pile of HM crocheted blankets from my grandma, and they come in very handy!

Funny you should say that, 2 of the blankets on my bed where my nannas :D I have a blue cellular one (which desperately needs re-edging as its disintegrated) and a thick woollen one as well. DD has two blankets for her bed which were my mums when she was little (so her nannas) and then were mine when I was little before my parents bought quilts :D
