My parents put the heating on today!! Nowhere near cold enough for that!
My radiator in my bedroom is always off and (don't tell them!) my window is open about 340 days of the year!0 -
Yes it was cold. Am in Yorkshire. I checked on the thermostat, and as I turned the dial, the I heard the boiler power up as I went past 13deg. Brrr. We've had thunderstorms, so I didn't expect it to be that cold. This last week I've really noticed a change in the temp. Started layering up the kiddies and even DS who is a hot little bod was shivering when he was getting his pj's on...
Bedsocks! That's the way forward. Foxy!Bossymoo

I am in Yorkshire too! Although I like my room to be around 16 or 17 degrees maximum.
I like the cold!
But not snow or ice.0 -

My house is feeling damp and chilly so I've just set the heating to come on in the morning to take the chill off so we can actually get out of bed instead of trying to hibernate
I have got it set to 16c for the rest of the day when I'm home, 14C overnight (until about 30min before we get up), and only on 20C first thing, and I think I have it set to 18C from about 3pm onwards. If this house didn't feel so damp I wouldn't be having it on at this time of year
Wish the rain would go away and let the place dry out a bit.

I'm another one that can vouch for a very chilly and damp feeling house today. I used today to test the heating out for 10 minutes. It works fine
I am going to have to toughen up though.
My sister is giving away her blinds so I'm getting some freebie wooden slatted ones for the unheated toilet room upstairs. With those up and the bubble wrap it should feel a bit warmer in there... a bit.0 -

I'm on the look out for flannelette sheets. If anyone knows where to get them from I'd very much appreciate it.
I have bubble wrap on my toilet window already, as of this week. I need a blind too but until I can get one I'm going to just prop up some cardboard over the space. It's only the loo, and who cares what it looks like just as long as I don't have a draught *ahem
I bought my flannelette sheets from Tesco direct last year. I would definitely shop around as I noticed a big difference in cost between different places. When you are searching online try putting in brushed cotton as well as flannelette. I found places varied in what they called them.0 -
We don't have central heating so first up is make sure our woolies are in good order and around now the thick coats and jumpers that need cleaning go to teh dry cleaners or get washed.
Also have checked the hot water bottles out, batteries for radios and torches, started laying in tinned food and non-perishables in case we can't get out for a few days (or in case it's too darn cold and slippery!!)Signature? I don't need no steenkin' signature.... :-)0 -
just thought id leave a quick update on my too many towels/curtains/duvet cover situation! thanks to lots of lovely advice on here....a v happt pm spent ploughing thro threads....i gave the shabbiest towels to dog loving neighbour, dyed a whole faded but servicable towel bale.....look like new now :-) used the bed throw on top of matress ,but under sheet ,on ds bed, dyed one set of curtains....i got the dye bug!! and now just have a few thick brown velvet curtains to deal with.....ive designs on them going into boys den room....which usually from october is like a fridge(single skin brick,no heat, and like rest of house,on the damp side!!)
