Stocked up Medicine cabinet, balmy tissues (only buy when they are on offer and they are so much nicer on poorly noses!) at weekend and also put together OHs Emergency box for in his car so thats another few things ticked off.

Ohhhh tissues - thanks:o used 5 boxes (yup!) when I had the lurgi a couple of weeks ago (it wasn't nice!) and had to raid the stock I'd put away.

You get really good boxes at HB for 59p! Might have to have a wee trip up in the next couple of weeks as also need loo rolls (I'm down to the last 2 packs!:o)

Hoping it's going to be OK at the weekend - hoping to get the flannalette sheets & pillowcases freshened up. So glad I got all this stuff last year!:) Also came across my fleece lined trousers - I saw some in a discount shop the other week which were marked £55 reduced to £28 .... can't quite remember but think we paid around £15 for them last year (remember when we were all buying them!:))
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

My vertical blinds in the front room are knackered (they were here when we moved in) but they still scroll along the runners. I am trying to come up with a way of making curtains to hang along the runners which can be pulled to and fro easily (have settee in front of the window) which I can line like the others.

being [STRIKE]nosey[/STRIKE] curious as i am, i did a google image search for vertical blind rail and it appears most have a hook like setting. the thought occured to me that if you wanted a pretty, somewhat bohemian chic look you could collect odd hook earrings from friends, family, charity shops etc. these could easily pierce a thin curtain or a fleece, then once it's through the fabric fashion a shape from the hook portion of the earing that fits securely over each slat hook. this way you get a very unique and pretty earring showing on the edge of the curtain/fleece like a border and don't see the hooks

if your rail does have small holes rather than hooks you could use old earrings, pierce through the material, through the slat hole and then put the back on, easy peasy ;)
  • Blimey how hot was it today??? Next year I am preparing for summer too lol.

Anyhoo got daughter 5 pairs of lovely warm socks from Asda, and bought her dad 5 prs for Xmas... I got nothing :/
Thats dd sorted clothes wise... she's got plenty of throws and pyjamas, tights etc, I don't think there is anything I need to sort out for her except for footwear nearer the time.

Cats next to think about, house, gardens, food stock ... then moi!

Hi everyone, after reading all the useful ideas on here I have made temporary fleece curtains for the kitchen and bathroom windows, which I have already put up and they really make a difference:) tomorrow Im making fleece linings for the front room curtains and safety pinning them in. I have stocked up the medicine cabinet and been buying a couple more packets of pasta, rice etc. so next on the list will be household candles, hot water bottles, a car box and warm fleecy clothes. Thanks to all the suggestions on here I will be better prepared this year:T

Incidentally - does anyone know where to get those little sachets of UHT milk you get at cafes / offices? I wouldn't know where to start looking!
You can buy boxes of milk jiggers at Costco. Sorry I don't know how much they are.

This is an absolutely brilliant idea, well done Confuzzled - I'm totally in awe of all the creative and imaginative people on here and have picked up so many tips. Keep them coming, I'm just collecting cardboard - we have masses at work and most of it goes in the recycling skip - to make blinds for the small windows and to cover in foil and tuck behind the few radiators that didn't get done last winter.

Washing the dog's bedding and towels today, it's glorious weather.
  • I can't seem to get to the end of my washing, it will be winter proper before I do at this rate lol.

Lovely sunny day again here! The weather seems to have perked up since I started my planning! If it stays fine next week going to get ahead in the front garden and get the weeds out and collect seeds - salt the cracks and make a hybernating corner for the frogs and insects and whatever else comes along.
Also want my birdtable changeing as next doors cat keeps jumping up on it so I want it heightened.

    Hi all:hello:

hope you don't mind me joining in:o I've been reading this thread a lot lately as I love Autumn and Winter and love all your ideas and tips, I love all the prep that goes into it this time of year:). I have been super organized this year and have already been stocking up on winters bits :T Still lots more to get though, but I am getting bits every week. I am loving the warmth but I would love it if it was fresher with the sun out so could wrap up and go for a nice Autumn walk with leaves crunching beneath our feet, guess will just have to be patient and wait a little bit longer!:D
