Had a quick squizz in DS wardrobe today whilst putting his holiday washing away, found two sweaters I've not seen before (lol shopping granny has been here...) and a quick count of trousers and sweaters sees he has plenty of winter clothes. He has wellies and welly socks, a winter coat and two hats I just need gloves for him, his hands are like shovels so will wait a little while and see how big he needs.

Will do the same for DD shortly too. And have them try on their fleece all in ones. I think there are two that will fit DS but probably only 1 for DD?

So I don't think we need much clothes wise, although I have lost a little more weight this year so my winter trousers I bought last year may want replacing. I'll check my stash though as I have various sizes so might alady have some that fit.

Need to consult my winter list but it's on my work laptop, so will take a peek tomorrow...

My DD has had a growth spurt recently. Since last winter she's gone up 2 shoes sizes and 2 ladies clothes sizes  She's now just one size in shoes smaller than me so she can borrow my thermal socks if she needs some, and she's had quite a few hand-me-downs which still fit. She's also discovered how comfy blokes sweatshirts a size too big can be so I think she's sorted :D

I on the other hand have put on weight, and quite a few of my things are getting too snug so part of my winter prep is now going to have to include loosing some weight. :o Oh well, DD is back at school so I have time to work out, prepare meals from scratch (we will be eating more stews etc as the weather gets worse ;)) and I think I might even take up shopping around on foot for stuff to up my exercise levels. I'm hoping the rest of my winter prep of decorating right through the house will also help as I'll be too busy to snack :rotfl:

This week (when I have 5 mins to spare...my calender is so full this week ) I hope to put the fleeces up on curtains, change DD's curtains for some heavier ones I found in a charity shop last year, and I might dig out the quilts. Left them off this week and put blankets on instead as the weather is so nice! I could really do with shortening some curtains as well so they only just go behind the radiators instead of bunching up loads. ;)

We have just had a new Primark open where I live and I am planning this week to go and stock up on winter pjs for the kids and see if I can get some cheap fleece blankets and socks for them. Need to get some more hot water bottles too. Going to sort out my medicine cabinet too this week and start stocking up on cough medicines and neurofen. Supposed to be getting cooler this week so be nice to go for long walks in the country without getting too hot, then come home and have something nice and warming to eat :D

  • Well autumn is definately here, earlier a gust of wind hit my big black poplar and as it passed through the branches it carried away lots of leaves, the first proper fall of the autumn. Its losing its leaves early this year, normally just a few at a time until October.

Next door neighbour has flagged all their front garden and is out there now sweeping up the masses of leaves that have fallen there.

So winter is definitely on its way and its certainly shaping up to be a possible long one.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

  • Wow! Another great thread and a timely reminder. I have had all year to put a curtain up at our back door and adjust the fit/locks and haven't, and now I better get on with it before the howling gales are blasting through......

Love this thread - we had a miserable winter last year, Mr PP on SSP , oil prices through the roof etc etc. This year will be different:j
Very quick winter clothes audit today and everyone is well stocked up. Even found a load of ski socks I bought when on sale at sports direct for 29p and had forgotten about:j
This weeks job is to order coal, check oil prices, get Mr PP on with chopping logs and bribing kids to collect sticks to dry out ready for fire lighting.
Cleaned out freezer ready to stock up with apples, damsons, blackberries and tomatoes. Can't believe how late everything is this year.
Challenges ahead include warming up a draughty old house with stone floors and keeping it warm  Any ideas/tips would be much :) appreciated

Hi there i dont post very often but do keep up to date most of the time. Has anyone seen a link to what is predicted weather wise for this winter yet or not.

Like pinkypig i too came accross some lovely soft fluffy socks that i bought sometime last year. Now wondering if i should give as xmas pressies to the girlies in the family or keep my own feet warm?

  • Today I washed and dried most of our hats/scarfs/gloves/mittens as well as mine and the children's ski wear (warn to play in the snow or to the park when it is cold).
I need to give the car boxes an over haul and I've bought some peanut brittle bars to add to them.

Does anybody know of a good place to buy curtain hooks so I can get on with putting up my fleece linings and any ideas on where I can buy small safety pins, thanks

Thanks pigpen it sounds pathetic but I just couldn't think where to buy them from and without these I won't be putting up my fleece linings. I doubt I would be able to beg for enough curtain hooks as I estimate I need a few hundred.

Just remembered this week I've also stocked up on:
    Toilet roll (96 rolls)
    Brown rice 4 bags
    Basmati rice 2 bags
Risotto rice 2 bags (need more)
    Pasta 6 kg
    Washing powder
