Preparing for winter III

Tenuous link to 'Preparing For Winter' I've just had a clear out of spare scarves, hats, gloves etc which was extended to include summer hats, sarongs, sunglasses, bags etc. Have added them to the dressing up box. I'm sure that they will be very useful to keep the grandkids entertained when they visit on those rainy days when they can't play out. Maybe schools or local playgroups might use them if you haven't got bored kids to entertain? The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I may be alone now and have no family to speak of so Christmas will be difficult enough as it is but I still hope to do myself a Christmas meal and pud afterwards for one:(and have a little drink or two(also to try and enjoy the Christmas music I shared with Mum)but looking at the Christmas stuff on sale in Morrisons today though very nice its all so un-necessary and overpriced so I think I'll avoid buying it. Not sure it's worth doing so just for me...but if I had family or loved ones I would.
Its not a case of being an old grump, I still like to think I have the wonder and innocence about many things in the world."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Ours were originally not in front of the windows and the rooms were warmer and you could draw the curtains without the radiators being in the way, then they renewed the CH and put them in front of the windows...:mad:Seems silly to me..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Definitly do your christmas day even if it's just you. I spent 11 years or somehting on my own for Christmas day, well with my pets, and it still felt special ((hugs)) .. you might find you get invitations when people hear you'll be on your own.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
I'll do it Marilyn,
I've tried to keep doing things we did together. One such event was the Proms on saturday I remember how Mum always sang Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory but I managed and I it is a memory of her and to stop is almost like what we did never happened, she is alive as long as she is in my heart and as I enjoyed/enjoy these things if I stop I am denieng(sp?)what I enjoy too.
There will be times where it is difficult but hopefully these can be looked at differently and not as upsetting...Mum would not want me to give in...
Thank you

Have also noticed the snails seem to have disappeared and caught 2 big black slugs getting snug in some holes in my outside wall so I think they are battening down the hatches for winter themselves!
My BM store was full of Christmas stuff today(mainly toys)Morrisons had quite a lot of Christmas Biscuits/chocolates so far Tesco's are behind in putting out their Christmas fare..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hi all, I often lurk here but rarely post (little to add compared to all th great ideas). I'm wondering about making window quilts for my kitchen this year - would they be ok with the humidity?
I need to do something as the 2 small windows in there have neither curtains or wooden blinds. The living room and bk bedroom have both, main bedroom just has metal blinds. Just not sure which windows to prioritise.
Have to admit that talk about adding fleece to curtains makes me smile - only the living room has normal fabric ones, the bk room only has fleece up! Loads left from lining the walls at a student house share (it was freezing). I have enough white fleece to make either window quilts or a bedroom curtain. Also have a pale king size sheet from a cs to front a curtain or back window quilts. Its one or the other this winter - but which to choose? Only in the bedroom to sleep really but the kitchen seems colder? Even though it south facing.
I'm also very aware that I need to get it done NOW as its ice cold out at work today - fingers going numb till I emptied my bag to find the gloves I knew were there.:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Oh and I've seen christmas biscuits in Tesco for a few weeks now:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0

Hello everone I hope its ok to join?
We moved last year from a small 2bed flat, to a big 3 bed house thats on a cliff edge, (North east of scotland) so we are already feeling the chill its almost always windy!
apologies for the dumb question, we have a large double window in the living room- sea facing and a smaller one at the back of the room, the smaller one have a long radiator running beneath it, there is just a wooden slatted blind on the window, what can I do about curtains? do i chose a lenght above the radiator or below?
I have a wee phobia of short curtains.. I know very silly, all my other ones are too the floor but Im not sure thats an option here?
oh and fleece? do you buy actual fleece blankets, or fleece fabric & sew? which is cheaper? x0
