  • You could also try wilkinsons for curtain hooks or if you have any independant DIY type places. Maybe even B and Q stock them.
This reminds me to buy the proper sized hooks for my bedroom curtains, for 5 years now they have been too big and just fall off the rail at random times. People must think I am a right tramp when my curtains are half on half off *the shame!*

Had a walk round the park today and yes definitly the leaves are falling proper now. It's been so close though the heat, we need a good storm to clear the air.

Does anybody know of a good place to buy curtain hooks so I can get on with putting up my fleece linings and any ideas on where I can buy small safety pins, thanks

i bought both of mine on ebay as we don't have the usual shops around here to get them, as i recall even with postage both came to around £3-4 total

I've read that you can also use cardboard covered in tin foil. I'll give that a go. In fact, I wonder if just tinfoil would work?
I remember seeing something called radflex on Ideal world, it was like a foil thing that slotted down the back of radiators (suspended on the brackets)and is easy to remove. I've had a look at it online and decided I'm going to see if I can find a cheap foil camping sheet or something like that from poundland and also buy some file slide binders and make my own for a fraction of the cost. You could probably use foil instead of a camping blanket.

Radflex (there's a video which gives you an idea how to make them)

    slide binders

Actually thinking about it a bit more you could cut some cardboard to size, cover with cheap foil and use the slide binders to suspend them behind the radiators. It would be even cheaper and the cardboard would be extra insulation. Why do builders put radiators on outside walls?

    Hi All
Have been thinking about my winter prep(on this scoarching hot day)!
Checked the kids clothes and think they are all set bar a pair of boots for dd, found 2 coats i bought her last winter so she should be good! They have pj's but wanted to get some warm ones just in case, last year we got some fleece ones but am just wondering which s warmer fleece or flannel?

We are in london so was not that cold here last winter but that could be a bad omen for his year?!

The other good thing about fleece is that it dries quicker :-) DS1 needs flannelette though or thick jersey as his eczema skin only likes cotton.

Had a quick squizz in DS wardrobe today whilst putting his holiday washing away, found two sweaters I've not seen before (lol shopping granny has been here...) and a quick count of trousers and sweaters sees he has plenty of winter clothes. He has wellies and welly socks, a winter coat and two hats I just need gloves for him, his hands are like shovels so will wait a little while and see how big he needs.

Will do the same for DD shortly too. And have them try on their fleece all in ones. I think there are two that will fit DS but probably only 1 for DD?

So I don't think we need much clothes wise, although I have lost a little more weight this year so my winter trousers I bought last year may want replacing. I'll check my stash though as I have various sizes so might alady have some that fit.

Need to consult my winter list but it's on my work laptop, so will take a peek tomorrow...

Big clothes are great for layers underneath...

Hi there i dont post very often but do keep up to date most of the time. Has anyone seen a link to what is predicted weather wise for this winter yet or not.

Like pinkypig i too came accross some lovely soft fluffy socks that i bought sometime last year. Now wondering if i should give as xmas pressies to the girlies in the family or keep my own feet warm?

I've got a stash in the drawer that are ready for gifts unless I need them first...

They put them on outside walls to stop dampness on the walls

Making a few preparations here now. We live in a draughty 2 up, 2 down in the country so plenty of snow and power cuts.

    So far...

    1) Have had double glazing fitted to replace the 2 ropiest, leakiest frames.

    2) Buying fleeces and jumpers when I see them in charity shops. Got 2 for my sons today at a total of £3.50. :-)

    3) Candle lanterns 70% off in Sainsburys so I bought 2 more today. I much prefer them around the house to just candles which get knocked over/the cats walk over. We have enough for 2 per room now.

Still need to order the first load of logs (we don't have central heating). I want to get part of the guttering fixed properly as well.

  • I was at Bm stores today and noticed they had de-icer in and scrapers.
Have also noticed the snails seem to have disappeared and caught 2 big black slugs getting snug in some holes in my outside wall so I think they are battening down the hatches for winter themselves!
