Rising - I had to switch to an automatic a few years ago for mobility reasons too, and had the same panic! If you drop the revs the engine drops down a gear. Some newer ones have an 'ice' mode. Just drive carefully and slow down slowly, and you'll be OK. Sadly you can't allow for all the idiots on the road who think braking in snow and ice is a good idea...

ETA - it will take a few weeks to get used to... Particulary moving from reverse to forwards and vice versa :o
  • I'm sorry the surgery wasn't successful, Rising :-(. I don't drive, so don't know about techniques, but mum said it was easier in the automatic than the manual.

Thanks greenbee - yup, I feel like a learner again:o, it's a totally different way of driving:eek:. Felt a bit better today and sure it'll keep on that way (was really struggling with having to accelerate so hard to get moving IYKWIM).

Glad I've got a few (hopefully!) weeks before it gets bad:eek:

Just realised, I must be really tired as I've spelled brakes as breaks above and, of course the car has them, it's manual gears that are missing :o will be off to bed IAM, me thinks!

Funnily enough, everyone has been warning me about hitting the brake pedal with my clutch foot - not doing badly on that front, it's my hand going for the gear stick that's hard to stop!

Hoping it'll make the foot less painful overall - with not having to use the clutch several times a day, fingers crossed.:)

Thanks too Spiky - hopefully in a couple of weeks, it's be more ..... natural IYKWIM.

I have ordered flannelette fitted sheets for the kids beds and new mattress protectors which are a thick terry towelling so will add comfort and warmth while protecting the mattress underneath.

Next on the list is new duvets and pillows for the kids beds, the ones they have are cheap and the filling tends to get bunched up and have bits where it is so thin you can see through it.

Also need to see about blinds for their bedrooms as an extra layer between the curtains and the glass.

I'm taking the daughter shopping tomorrow to stock up on socks, might treat myself too.

    Hi Everyone!

A nice sunny day here today so I am using it to wash all the throws and fleeces as well as our coats and all of the Baby blankets.

Ordered some film for on the Windows in Bathroom and living room, might try and do kitchen too if there is a enough. Packet said it was enough for 4 normal windows.

Stocked up Medicine cabinet, balmy tissues (only buy when they are on offer and they are so much nicer on poorly noses!) at weekend and also put together OHs Emergency box for in his car so thats another few things ticked off.

Trying to get it all done before Baby Pea arrives, got my C-Section date the other day....9th Oct so a little over a month to get the rest finished!

Wish I had time to read through this whole thread! Will have a bit read with a cuppa later on if I can. Thanks everyone for sharing tips.

I plan to get some Ikea fleece throws and have scrounged old sheets and curtains from family so I can double line all our curtains with a fleece each and then a plain material on the outside.

My vertical blinds in the front room are knackered (they were here when we moved in) but they still scroll along the runners. I am trying to come up with a way of making curtains to hang along the runners which can be pulled to and fro easily (have settee in front of the window) which I can line like the others.

Also going to hang some of the scrounged curtains and the back and front doors.

Currently crocheting a blanket for new baby with charity shop yarn and we have plenty of fleeces and blankets and throws. I'm going to get another fleece or two to make pixie bonnets/scarves all-in-ones for the girls for when the weather turns.
Love and compassion to all x

i would imagine there is some small hook or loop where each vertical blind slat hangs, you could make some tiny hooks/rings that could easily go through a fleece (they don't fray) and go through each slot. also for summer light weight curtains might be able to be made using the same system.

Warm again here today but we are expecting cooler weather within the next few days. it would be nice to be able to run the oven a bit. I know I shouldn't complain about the warmth as it will be cool soon enough. I can't wait for the nice apples for apple pie and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream! Mmm-- maybe some pumpkin pie too
