First the extractor fan went, then the fridge, the dishwasher and then the oven. We replaced the hob voluntarily. Not as bad last night as it was on Tuesday but it is nonetheless miserable weather. Hopefully, all of you are safe and your homes have come out of this third bout unscathed. What a start to 2012!!
I know what you mean! We had the same the other year, everything broke in a short period of time. All our lightbulbs keep blowing at the minute, which means trips under the stairs to flick the fuse switch.Anchor yourself to the foundations of everything you love.
Thank you to all those who post competitions!:beer:0 -
Why does my new double glazing let the sound in more than my old single glazed windows, I have checked for holes - this wind has been great for that but no they are fully sealed but hubby is forever coming in and son the other day and saying have you got a window open the traffic sounds so loud and its true it does. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a quote on a triple glazed window just for in here as some days it doesn't bother me but others it really gets on my nerves and I end up feeling like screaming.
We had the same problem when we moved house, prepareathome. Then it turned out that the cowboys who had installed the double glazing had only 'dabbed' the foam stuff around the window enough to secure the frame but not right around to seal the gaps which still let in noise and cold. We only found this as we removed the layers of old wallpaper so the draught wasn't too bad! It might be worth investigating before you splash out on triple glazing? OH has checked each room as we've decorated, but it's all on hold now until we get some better weather. A little draught is better than a huge one...HTH

Did any of teh Scots see the pics on BBC Scotland of the Forth Bridge ??:eek:
the water was pure froth and spray . I wouldnt have driven across that even if it was open- it looked like that famous painting of the Tay Bridge disaster
It was horrendous - I was going to visit cousins in west lothian and the bridge was open by the time we got there but even then it was scary:eek: there were trees down where they live in Livingston and the shopping centre was closed on tuesday because of damage to the roof - it was not nice at all. and yesterday the sleet/rain and wind again - we were meant to go out for a meal but decided against it and could hear the roof 'lifting' all evening. all seemed ok today apart from garden things being blown over but the number of trees over rods has been dreadful.
When we got back to Perth the river is exceptionally high - frightening for those at risk of flooding.Mardartha, those pictures are shocking! I hadn't realised that things were so bad up there. If it was London it would have been all over our news. I feel so sorry for anyone who has suffered damage. We've got no chance against nature have we?
Thanks for posting them
Funny thats just what we were saying - there was only fleeting mentions of the havoc yet loads of mentions and pictures down south - the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh lost 40 trees!!!!! was that reported on the national news???
I do hope the next storms are not so bad but we all now know the week spots on our properties so will have to try and sort things before anythng else comes along - I think I preferred the snow:(
stay safe everyone
toots xxPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

It was bin day today - recycling so i think i must have half the neighbourhoods recycling in my garden. Had the dilema last night of do i put bin out and guarentee it being collected but the risk of blowing over, or get up really early and put it out so less likely to go everywhere. I took the second option but think the rest of the street didnt want the early start!
Stay safe and warm everyone
I also had this problem last week,I put the bins out last night but kept having a quick peek out of the window at them, they were OK this time!0 -
Someone came this morning about the chimney and of course the pot had vanished off the garden! The chap asked me what it was like so I described it,said he didn't know when it would get fixed as so many of them! After he had gone I called on a neighbour about something else and I saw the pot outside another neighbour's house! The chap I was speaking to said he had picked it up thinking it was a plant pot from next door to him! So mystery solved,he asked if I wanted it back so I said no but at least I know where it is now!0

omg am reading pressure charts
a low is bad, very bad if surrounded by lots of isobars close together. (am coughing now)
Especially bad for me personally if it is overhead in the SWheart in mouth alread as we ain`t seen nothing yet, if it comes to pass. Appointments cancelled and am tieing everything down by tenth maybe a few days later but ready by tenth. I could go to scotland for relative calm but I won`t be leaving here
you know what I mean, I hope
stay very alert for pressure charts and what is coming over atlantic and tbh I very very much hope we get the 20% chance of wrongness0 -
Well the craghoppers bought for winter snow have certaintly come in useful against the wind, rain and hail we had yesterday. It was also great to have a freezer full of food so I could come straight home from work. Preparing for winter has certaintly been worthwhile for us and if it does snow we are prepared for that too. Thank you for all the tips, this thread has been very informative.

your area is also full of highly concentrated pressure bars. Central low is over us. Dh and I are really worried about this episode and I kid you not, I hope it is very very wrong. I`ll be watching online pressure charts like a hawk from next sunday on0
