Preparing for winter III

Two more storms, Kittie? I think I preferred the snow!
Things appear to be relatively undamaged here, although I still haven't heard a train all morning. I'm not right beside the train track, though and the Scotrail website doesn't say that all trains that should be passing are cancelled, so I will hope for the best a bit later.
The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the damp smell in my bathroom. It's completely tiled right up to the ceiling and there's no sign of anything that should be causing it either inside or outside. There's no damp smell in the rooms on either side of the bathroom. I'm going to have to see if my neighbours upstairs and downstairs are having the same problem and do some further investigation.0 -
well i went outside and had a good look at the damaged fence section. it would appear it's been poorly repaired in the past, the section at the end outside of my shared garden was patched in the middle and there were boards going horizontally all along the bottom. the middle support was also totally rotten so i'm surprised it held up this long to be honest
still can't get ahold of the letting agents, yesterday they were still off work, now they are 'in training' however i've left a message and took photos for them so as a tenant i think i've done my duty. i just hope i don't get my two other neighbours that share the fence pestering me about it right now as i can't do anything about it myself other than what i've done, i have no legal responsibility as a tenant and quite frankly i'm stressed up to my eyeballs as it is, not a nice start to the year!
i hope everyone else is doing ok and shirley get on the HA to get you sorted asap, i feel for you, least mine was just a fence and a potential headache to deal with the hassle, yours was very frightening you poor thing!0 -
Did any of teh Scots see the pics on BBC Scotland of the Forth Bridge ??:eek:
the water was pure froth and spray . I wouldnt have driven across that even if it was open- it looked like that famous painting of the Tay Bridge disaster :eek:0 -
I tried ringing yesterday but of course they were on holiday still,I tried the emergency number and it just cut me off! I rang this morning,52 people ahead of me it said, must be a lot of damage from the wind so have to wait for them to call me back now. I had a couple of arguments with a neighbour over the holiday about rubbish,he was quite nasty to me yesterday as well which has given me a new year resolution to leave here,I have talked about this before but I will definitely do something about it this year!0

Gawd, I saw that bridge swaying mardatha. A big bridge like that up and down like a hoors drawers
singlestep that smell just might be up from the drains, toothpaste and soap scum builds up and the smell is like damp. I had it last week and just put washing soda down and a full kettle of boiling water in each plughole. It worked a treat.
Bedding is off and ready for all systems go tomorrow.
We found that door to outside was sticking so put silicone spray (car bumper and dashboard cleaner actually) on the rubber seals and it has worked a treat. Hotpot in remoska, just sliced potato, shredded cabbage, sliced onion and the lean bits off 2 diddly lamb chops. Layered with pepper and some oxo stock and rosemary. Covered with a silicone round that I made from a cheap sheet of silicone for baking. Smells divine. I love winter food
was that roof from the tall flats :eek:0 -

KITTIE! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: There goes your image of a respectable serious minded lady scientist :rotfl:0 -
Mardartha, those pictures are shocking! I hadn't realised that things were so bad up there. If it was London it would have been all over our news. I feel so sorry for anyone who has suffered damage. We've got no chance against nature have we?
