Shirleymarye some people will steal anything mind you I have two Victorian chimney pots in my garden that I use as planters - nope didn't steal them someone a good few years ago offered them on Freecycle, they came with two bird baths - daughter happily took one and three beautiful 3ft x 1 ft long stone planters, the woman told us they were in the garden when they bought the house and to her they were trash and she was surprised anyone wanted them but had, had many people ask for them and I was the lucky one, to me they are beautiful and very expensive to buy, they were so heavy we had to transport two at a time in our little car and she lived many miles away, but worth the petrol I love them.
Well we have the wind tonight, well most of today, I have had to put tape on the letterbox as was fed up with it banging. Bins have been blown over so many times that we have left them down now, they can't get out the garden unless they are picked up by the wind and that can happen even if they are standing. Have heard a few crashes so wondering if any tiles have come down, nothing loud enough for a chimney ( well I hope not). Definitely not going out there to check now as its lashing down. Hubby came home from work at 1pm rather wind blown and wet and then said he would dry off and go and buy some milk - we are down to our last two pints of fresh. Usually I would agree with that as we like to have plenty in, but told him we have about 10 pints of long life then about 3 bags of dried milk ( kept mainly for bread making) and 8 pints in freezer. Tomorrow is pay day and we plan to go out shopping anyway so I think we can manage till then. Reminded him I have been preparing for such days as these for months, if it wasn't that I am picking up the treadmill I have ordered in Argos tomorrow if weather is still like this I wouldn't go out at all as plenty still in, even if its not exactly what I should be eating now I have started SW. My old treadmill bit the dust months ago and I ( another bin has just gone over somewhere near) kept meaning to work out cash so could afford another one as walking on it was my one exercise as could do it in 5 min sections if I had to but still got the exercise, but now its in the sale and £20 cheaper so am happy with that, but its the last one so cannot leave it for another day. Another thing hubby wanted to get today is more of his mouthwash, he refused to let me stock up on it, well no more than 3 bottles and he wouldn't let me buy more till they were finished and today he used his last mouthful, ( more bins gone, just keep hearing these thumps lol) so told him I have plenty of mine in so for one night and morning he can use it - I use one for sensitive teeth and his is just normal - and he has agreed I can buy a few more bottles tomorrow ( success). Wind is so loud sometimes its actually drowning out the cars, I am amazed as nothing I have tried does that, even bought a white noise track ( 79p) but unless I play it at full volume the traffic sounds can still be heard, even earplugs don't stop it. Why does my new double glazing let the sound in more than my old single glazed windows, I have checked for holes - this wind has been great for that but no they are fully sealed but hubby is forever coming in and son the other day and saying have you got a window open the traffic sounds so loud and its true it does. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a quote on a triple glazed window just for in here as some days it doesn't bother me but others it really gets on my nerves and I end up feeling like screaming. Maybe I should just record the noise the wind is making and play that all the time.......would certainly be cheaper
Hope everyone is staying safe, warm and upright.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Urgh another eventful night for me! Looks like just like last night sleep will not be coming easily. The wind is having a right go, sounds like a hurricane out there! The rain is absolutely battering the conservatory roof which is right under my window, so that's making a hell of a racket! And the fence is well and truly gone, it's doing the LIMBO at the minute, had a go at sorting it out earlier (00:30am!!) but couldn't do much. And just had the added bonus of running around the house like a headless chicken trying to find the source of a mysterious electronic chirping noise! At one point I was certain it was my front door, but after further investigation and opening the front door to look outside (took a lot of willpower to let the cold in!) I found out it was next doors car alarm going off, so that looks like another noise that will be keeping me awake tonight!
But enough moaning, I'm sure others are having it worse!!
Hope you're all staying safe, dry and warm! And getting some extra z's because I can't!Anchor yourself to the foundations of everything you love.
Thank you to all those who post competitions!:beer:0 -
 it is absolutely ferocious here and has been windy all night but built up a lot over the last two hours. It`s so scary, huge gusts. Its coming off the severn estuary and overland, nothing in the way. Lol, first wash is almost finished, I`ll never even be able to physically hang it up at this rate
I hate the wind and I especially hate the `no let up`, very bad for animals and makes children very lively0 -
After sorting the garden out yesterday after the gales I now have to do it again this morning. Its been really gusty here overnight, the fence & greenhouse are now beyond repair, just noticed the BBQ has somehow ended up in the middle of the garden on its side. Luckily the chicken house and their run is still intact.0

Well much worse last night than to the night before here. Weather men said it would be better last night so i guess they were wrong. Our fence seems to be hanging on by a thread one side but totally off the other end of the post. Not sure if i can do anything to stop it going completely but will have a look in a min. Got to take kids to school in a bit - not looking forward to that as its always windy at the top of the hill where the school so dread to think what its like today. It was bin day today - recycling so i think i must have half the neighbourhoods recycling in my garden. Had the dilema last night of do i put bin out and guarentee it being collected but the risk of blowing over, or get up really early and put it out so less likely to go everywhere. I took the second option but think the rest of the street didnt want the early start!

Wondered if it would be possible for you to tie the bits of fence to the posts with cable ties to stop them disappearing completely. They are strong and might do for a temporary measure.0 -
In worse news: our cooker has packed in, the fan still spins but no heat! And our fridge freezer has become very tempermental.
So all in all great start to 2012.
Hope you all stay safe in this weather!
About five years ago now the major kitchen appliances - which are integrated for extra expense!! - decided to give up the ghost in a four week period of February. First the extractor fan went, then the fridge, the dishwasher and then the oven. We replaced the hob voluntarily. I felt as it we had either been hexed or that the appliances had formed a consipracy against us :rotfl:
Not as bad last night as it was on Tuesday but it is nonetheless miserable weather. Hopefully, all of you are safe and your homes have come out of this third bout unscathed. What a start to 2012!!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Thanks for the advice but it would appear that previous owned screw them somehow to the end of the garage so there is no post to tie it to. Will have to wait for OH and his electric drill etc to get back hopefully tonight i think. I have put kids playhouse up against it in the hope it limits movement a littleMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
