Oh my ..... thank goodness it went away from the flats...... hope the HA get it made safe / watertight ASAP.

The wind here did drop slightly for a short time after lunch but still to much to go anywhere - and it's right back up again. Have had to recover the bins several times :( but have nowhere to put them inside with the car being in the garage.

My cats haven't been out for about 3 days now :( - not good as they only tolerate each other at the best of times and are starting to get grumpy with each other which is usually the prelude to a fight:(

    :eek::eek::eek:

Re stuff for birds nesting .... if you've got pets, then any hair gathered after they've been brushed is usually gratefully snapped up too!

Ive a got a very small cairn terrier ,she dont shed any hair at all, which is brilliant in the house, but not so good for the birds..........Last year when I cut hubbys hair I always throw the hair in the hanging basket and I also found that in the wrens nest,:D.so everything a round here gets recycled, no waste ........

The weather's kicking up a right fuss here at the moment, I'll never get to sleep at this rate!
One of our fence panels has come loose, so want to get that fixed tomorrow (today) before it flies into the conservatory because that would be expensive!
In worse news: our cooker has packed in, the fan still spins but no heat! And our fridge freezer has become very tempermental.
So all in all great start to 2012.
Hope you all stay safe in this weather!

Shirleymarye your HA should have some kind of emergency cover over holidays for emergency repairs, its terrible if they haven't even ours do, they never do much but they should have been available to at least put a tarpaulin over the roof. I hope you don't find rain has got through and you stay safe and warm.

    Hugs xxx

Smeeth wind is noisy here but at moment not actually doing much, bins are out and they are staying put, for the moment anyway.

That was worse than the hurricane last week. Kittie not good news that there's two more storms to come!
We havent got fences between gardens here, which will tell you something :D - we have either hedges or nothing. I been in this house over 20 years and there's never been a fencembetween me and next door. There is concrete & witre one between the gardens and the back field though. That doesn't blow down, but lambs keep get stuck in it :D
Well due to the powercut I can proudly announce that yesterday we used ONE unit of elect. The RV is so pleased that I'm scared he turns the mains off now...:rotfl::rotfl:

There`s a bit of a breathing space this morning so I am checking bolts and ties, it has been a horrible couple of days and I can already see rain clouds building up. The fields are sodden so there is no more soak-up potential and there are going to be floods.

Today I'll be clearing up the damage in my garden, shredded reed screening, cover off the plastic greenhouse ripped, clearing the branches/twigs and generally having a tidy up. One of the chooks is looking sorry for herself, hopefully its because shes moulting and nothing more sinister.
I'm glad I'm not at work this week as it gives me a chance to catch up on a lot of jobs at home.
Did buy an electric hang on the wall fire last week, just having the flame effect working makes me feel warmer. Its handy when I just want to take the chill off the room and don't want to fire up the central heating.
  • Just been reading through the posts.
Seems we've all had a scary 24 hours.
I live right on the North East coast and I was realy worried yesterday morning as the noise swirling round the house was terrible and I was terrified that the roof (which has'nt been replaced that long) was going to go.
The sea out front was mighty angry, never seen it like that for years.
Luckily after a particularly bad half hour and a lot of loud banging I was surprised to find that the only damage was some fencing and my (heavy) metal garden furniture had been blown halfway down the yard.
I find it hard to even move it yet the wind must have been so strong it had no trouble moving it a good 12 feet .
I'm going to try and go out and tidy up out there this morning as there is quite a mess.
Going to try to prepare incase we get more storms ,put everything away etc.
Hope everyone else gets any damage sorted out and that everyone stays safe :).
