hello everyone, glad to hear most of you had good christmases

it's been so mild here that i've had the heat totally off for the last 3 nights. the ex has taken my daughter for the next 3 nights though and since it will be only one body, no laptop (my goodness the heat they produce!) and no more baking i'm considering using the small heater in the hall, i'll probably tough it out another night and see how it is tomorrow morning before i decide.

hope you're all enjoying yourselves... whilst i have a lot of work to catch up on (the self employed don't really get time off, they just shuffle work around to pretend they do!) i think i'm gonna go indulge myself in some left over christmas goodies and watch some of my House and Glee dvds i got as pressies :D

The weather is turning again for New Year apparently with a chilly icy blast hitting us. Making the most of this clement weather for the time being. :)

  • Hi all
I am just back from my brother's in Fife and we had 2 power cuts on Christmas day with the gales - the first one only lasted about 20 mins and the turjey had only just gone in the oven and the 2nd hit just as we finished the main course so we were lucky although it was off for abot 2 hours - MY bruv is not organised despite them having power cuts on a regular basis but he is not one to take advice so I didnt try:eek::rotfl:they lost panels off barns, a whole hen house with hens was blown 100 feet over a fence and a whole outhouse roof was lifting off in the last gale so he has his work cut out - but when the power went off he had to think where the matches were:cool:
my lovely Landlord had popped along and put my heating on for me coming back so it was cosy and nice.

The gantries on the motorways are forecasting gale force winds and wintry showers for tomorrow from central to northern scotland:eek: so it will be batten down the hatches again:(

    stay safe and warm folks
    toots
    Peace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

  • Just wanted to drop in and say hi  have spent the past day and a half reading through this thread and have picked up some great tips!! :D

Although I haven't 'deliberately' prepared, so to speak, I have a couple of gas stoves, job lots of candles, a huge amount of food (and loo roll!!) and a reasonable amount of coal and logs....so I feel like an honorary 'prepper', even if not a real one yet!!:rotfl: Could definately do better though....look forward to getting organised...who knows what the next couple of months could bring...

That sounds like a great start ! :T
  • I don`t think I like this weather, it just doesn`t feel right, it is far too warm and ok the upside is the lower energy bills but I am even warm at night, so that I have to have an arm and a leg out of the covers (and I am past the post menopause). I want snow and cold for at least a short while, not wind though as that scares me. Bulbs are all up, roses are sprouting buds and there are even flies outside

I have too much in the way of stored food :), I can stay away from the shops for a long time but next year I am designating one cupboard plus my preserves and that will be IT. The upside of course is not spending any money but my beans and tomato tins will be antiques by the time I get to the last ones

I must say that I am glad that christmas is over :). Tv has been absolute carp and even with family, it is quite a psychologically lonely time. Perhaps it is because we will never again be a child at christmas, when it was pure magic and the fantasy was real

I think winter is going to hit come spring time now - this yr we had an early mild spring, maybe our seasons are not on a yearly bases anymore? My snowdrops have just flowered now, whereas I normally get them in November. Everythings to pot!

edit, dont know why i said november cos i meant february!
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00
  • We've also got snowdrops out - and cowslips!
Glad I stocked up on toilet rolls though, DH has to go for a colonoscopy tomorrow and has been taking "hemlock" for two days to make sure he's empty.
The bathroom is a no go area as far as I'm concerned ;)
    Normal people worry me.
  • I am also glad Xmas is over being one of the elderly lonely people with no family. Not seen a soul since last Friday apart from the postie and an evil neighbour yesterday who had a go at me regarding rubbish bins,I try to do my bit in rubbish collection and he doesn't believe in recycling! Today it's blowing a gale, yet again and a lot of the recycled rubbish is all over the road, saw the chap opposite going down the road trying to capture papers with a rake! The bins I put out have blown over and plastic bottles everywhere! Don't know why I bother really, maybe I worry too much? My cats don't like being kept in,trouble is I live in a flat and they have to go down the stairs to get out,it also means I have to go up and down to see if the door is open, exercise for me I guess!
I think the chap opposite me has picked all my rubbish up! I did attempt it myself but it's on a grassy slope and I nearly fell over! I hate this windy weather,I hate snow as well by the way,I have stocked up a bit though on food and loo rolls,I have a car but I hate driving in bad weather. Sorry for my misery mood.
