Preparing for winter III

Lightbulb moment! A few people have mentioned fluffy pjs. I thought u just meant like I have already, sort of brushed cotton. Some one recommended Dunnes for PJs... Wow! Pjs made from actual fleece! How awesome! One even had a fleece jumper as the top! (bottoms to that didn't fit
). I got a set of normal fleece ones. Woo!
Also went into lidl... They didn't have the alarm lights, and hadn't done. But theybhad lots of fleece sheets, so I got one. OH won't wear PJs so it should help, and will help on wash day with the flannel sheets.
Thanks for tip to put my cellular blanket UNDER duvet, good idea! I've a hot water bottle, and a lavender wheat bag soft toy, and the last few nights have fallen asleep wearing a short dressing gown (bed jacket?) I got for £5 in M&S sale last year.Rainy-Days wrote: »Northamptonshire calling here - I went into the garden this afternoon and took down the wind chimes - they were beyond twinkling in fact they were clattering about making a complete racket. Last night I woke up listening to them and vowed they would be taken down today.
Answer from DH this morning - huh I didn't hear them
Im in north northants, but work in northampton, its been bitter. I really should take down the bunting in the tree!Alisonpennypincher wrote: »Bubbs, I'm in Far Cotton and use the Butcher on Euston Road - Pargiters, he's utterly fab and very reasonable.
Am sure we will wake up to another cold day tomorrow, i've been cold all day today. Still waiting for some white stuff though!
We used to like in Far Cotton! st Leonards rd, small world eh?I will have to go up there in the new year as been looking for a good butcher since moving from kettering 5.5 years ago lol
And now we're outside Kettering! Very small world!

We had all our torches and candles to hand and had food that could be cooked on a hob.
As the wood was all chopped and stacked we had the wood burner lit and virtually lived in the living room. If anyone watches Look North you would have seen the amazing United Utility guys working in blizzard conditions through the night to get our power back on. The poles carrying the power lines either snapped or keeled over with the weight of the ice and snow.
After last year with no water I thought this year was going to be easy
I have learnt that we need more flasks and I need warmer slippers!
Phew! I knew that some of the posters here would be without power... Glad to know that your winter preps worked and made a possibly horrific time, a little better
Still worried about RedDoe thoI haven't seen a post from her in ages
Well with redlady to the west of me and frugal to the north, I'm hoping we'll see a bit of snow but not enough to stop OH coming over next week. I can't decide whether I want him to be snowed in here then, or for it to wait until after christmas so we can both do our respective family stuff....
... I have bubble wrapped the front and back door windows, and the bathroom and half the spare room with the stuff from my latest approved food order. I then checked the shed and have found enough to do the rest of the spare room and probably the downstairs loo as well. Those are the only ones I'm doing. We're putting up curtain poles in the study and spare room next week, so curtains will be back up (study ones are being interlined and I will pick them up from my mum's at Christmas).
Batch cooking is being done both for christmas baking and for soup and casseroles that can be reheated on the hob. I'm so well prepared I can't imagine it will bother being a hard winter now...
Ahhhh a neighbourHello
I am well prepared too (apart from a couple of quick jobs that could be done in half hour if necessary) so even if it is a hard winter, I'm not going to feel it like those who haven't prepared... and will be able to help neighbours who haven't!0 -

23rdspiral, small world indeed, i'm not far away from St Leonards Road, have been here 14+ years, i wonder if our paths ever crossed unknowingly!
Looking forward to seeing if we get any snow overnight, local forecast says we may wake to snow, but it will be quite wet snow, so will either freeze or vanish!0 -
mardatha I thought you would be the one to lose power, not me!
prepare, Frugal, thanks for the encouragement to join in late, it really spurred me on.
23rdspiral, I slept in jarmies with a fleece jumper top and flanelette bottoms last night. I wore a thin cotton long sleeved top underneath as I don't like fleece nextb to my skin, it irritates. I slept really well despite sub zero temperatures in the house! DH was too warm!!
annie I can see a band of snow clouds coming towards us. We have DSs car in the village and DH has his 4wd prepped for the snow. he checked the oil, water, scrteenwash today so we are ready for more.
toots, I was hoping that was the excitement for the Winter, not a test run :eek:I am now encouraging DD to be better prepared as they are all electric in their house and struggled a bit the last couple of days: though they did have power last night.

 ooh maybe! I do know an Ali from round under the bridge in the estate, but I'm sure she's not been there anywhere near that long! I liked the It's A Gift, and loved the chicken and chips shop and walking in delepre abbey. We moved 8 years ago for OH work.
I'm not at work tomorrow, so kinda hope there's a little snow!
