Will be glad when it is the school holidays and we don't have to go out if the weather is really bad. Just a big shop to do this weekend and then we'll be ready for Christmas. The Turkey and Pork have been ordered from our local butcher, so only the odd bits to get, and more loo roll! Only have about 4 rolls in the house at the moment! :rotfl:
Hope that all of you with wild weather atm are ok and keep safe in the winds/snow that are forecast in the next few days.

Bubbs, I'm in Far Cotton and use the Butcher on Euston Road - Pargiters, he's utterly fab and very reasonable.
Am sure we will wake up to another cold day tomorrow, i've been cold all day today. Still waiting for some white stuff though!0 -
[QUOTE=shegar;It_did_turn_cooler_just_after_lunch,_thats_when_the_heating_went_on,:D2_dogs_lying_on_the_floor_on_their_backs_with_all_their_legs_in_the_air......:eek:making_their_selves_"at_home_",_[/QUOTE]
Shegar - you just described both my weather and my houseWell, only one dog, a very large 4 month old pup. So elegant with his pink tummy nicely contrasting his shiny black fur :rotfl:
I went round the house checking for draughts today and plugged a couple of bad ones. Plus tonight I've closed the curtains at the back living room window - don't usually bother as there's only gardens and a field out there. It has made a nice difference - I've got a more even temperature instead of colder and hotter spots.
The heating is now on all day but controlled by the thermostat in the living room so it's up for a bit first thing, down for the bulk of the day then back up in the evening until an hour before bedtime when it goes down really low so it won't come on overnight unless the temperature is VERY low. I'm doing this for a week and comparing it with my usual off all the time except for programmed periods to see what the usage is like. So far I can't say I've noticed the boiler kicking in very often but time will tell. I'm still wrapping up warm and not overheating the house."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -

I will have to go up there in the new year as been looking for a good butcher since moving from kettering 5.5 years ago lolSealed pot challenge number 003 £350 for 2015, 2016 £400 Actual£345, £400 for 2017 Actual £500:T:T £770 for 2018 £1295 for 2019:j:j spc number 22 £1,457Stopped Smoking 22/01/15:D:D::dance::dance:- 5 st 1 1/2lb :dance::dance:0 -
Thanks to all who have supplied keeping-bed-warm tips, was actually IN bed when most of them came in so will implement blanket on top tonight nd others that require stripping bed nd building up from the mattress at the w/e!
I have hotties but they go cold - do I need a cover to improve this??
Am trying to train youngest dog to sleep IN the bed all night but she is the proverbial hot-dog herself and has to surface to cool down so she is only intermittently useful.
We sound as if we are going to escape the worst of this weeks weather in East Anglia - thats what you get when you stick out in the sea I suppose (altho not true for the poor folk in SW). Heartfelt hugs and good wishes to everyone suffering- please keep safe you guys.
....
My hotties are cold by the early hours, the boys have furry covers for theirs and they stay warm all night. DS1 has a cover my mum gave him for Xmas about 13 years ago, so it's looking a bit threadbare, I won DS2's in a raffle at preschool.
I do want to get more covers, just hoping to get them in the sales or get furry material to make them (I'll use furry material & draw round & add an inch for the fullness of the water & as a seam allowance & add tabs on one side to come either side of the stopper to fasten with velcro).
Mum sticks them in pillowcases when the boys stay over with my parents, I guess that would help? Will experiment tonight!Hi to you,:)not sure where you are at in East Anglia but im right on the coast near the sea, as you know weve had very little wind here today and its been sunny all day with blue skies, what id call a beautiful drying day again..........
It did turn cooler just after lunch, thats when the heating went on,:D2 dogs lying on the floor on their backs with all their legs in the air......:eek:making their selves "at home ", Ive got my store cupboards full to keep us going should we have a bad winter.....On the subject of bri nylon sheets I didnt think they still made them, must be 30 yr ago since I slept in them,it maybe false econmy to buy them , cheaper materials dont wash very well for very long, I would imagine they will bobble..........I like my crisp white cotton sheets, with only the duvet on , and being in bed for a few mins I have to chuck that off to cool down, and thats with the big window open too, so how you lot go to bed with night wear on and mattress toppers etc etc , I ll never know......im hot stuff...:eek::eek:id wake up dead if I were you..:D:eek::)!!....
The forecast on Radio Suffolk wasn't great so I left my washing on the horse when I went to work, only to see beautiful blue skies later! Errant husband told me the winds are supposed to get up tomorrow evening/Friday morning, so hope DS2's carol concert goes ahead ok tomorrow night & we're ok getting to school Friday am. Though we live in a town, both boys go to school in the villages; DS1 gets a school bus, but DS2 & I walk, & there are trees on either side of the road most of the way.0 -
Woahhhhhhh, tonight the wind is wild wild wild, I think we may of started the storm early here, it wasn't predicted until tomorrow night!!! gosh I hope it dosen't get too much worse.
Winds steadily picked up in the last hour and being battered by hail, rain, sleet, then had huge flash of lightening and big clap of thunder and sleet,snow mix which stopped after about 5 mins, but the wind is still helllish, am scurrying round making flasks and a box with candles, ciggies, sweeties, and lighters etc, kids already have an emergency evacuation box containing jogging bottoms, sox and a big jumper under their bed anyway so if anything gets too bad I can quickly get them out of their PJ's quickly, about a mile down the road they have had a power cut, not sure if it back on, we also had a warning here that if you own a small fishing boat you may wanna get it out of the harbour as its gonna be rough tomorrow..... Of course the surfers are gonna chance their life to catch the ultimate wave, must be nuts!!!!!
Gonna be a long night if it continues like this, kids are deffo coming in my bed tonight, want us all snuggling together!Thriftkitten

Ooh. hope that you are ok Thriftkitten, sounds scary! I've been awake since 4am and it's really quiet (not windy!) and actually not that cold to say that we don't have the heating on and car was showing 0 degrees at 11.15pm when I got in last night. Feels a bit eerie... like the calm before the storm...:eek:
Hot water bottle covers: a towel wrapped around it or a child's tee shirt will do until you get around to making one. (Sew the bottom or add press studs if you're more fussy than me!):)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Had my winter tyres put on yesterday - can't believe how different they feel! I've also bubble wrapped the windows in the front and back doors and taped up a draughty bit of the back door. I have lots of bubble wrap from an approved food order which I intend to use on the bathroom and spare room windows today! I have also got access to more unlagged pipes while electrical works are in progress, so will deal with them too.0

Its arrived!
I walked past the front door just before 6am and though to myself " its a bit bright outside" the door has glass panels in it and usually it just looks like the reflection of the hallway when its dark outside.
I peeked out of the window to see everything is white, looks like 2 to 3 inches so not a great deal but enough that it will probably cause mayhem *rolls eyes"
When i go out later i`ll have a better idea, not sure when the wind dropped during the night so we may have some drifts.
The first thing i did was to open the kitchen blinds to see out into the back garden and let the younger hound outsideHer face was a picture and she just went barmy goofballing around in the garden :rotfl:
Outside the temp is zero and inside its a lovely 18, i`m only really planning on walking the dogs today as i have a few days off. We shall see what the day brings.
Thriftkitten - Hope that you managed to get some sleep last night and that all is well.Had my winter tyres put on yesterday - can't believe how different they feel!
I had two put on my front driving wheels and my car feels like a little tankHope that it still feels like that in the snow, might be able to actually stop in it this year unlike last year when the car would just keep going :eek:
Keep warm and safe peeps, there`s more of the white stuff on the way according to the weather.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
still nothing here yt though suspect it might come soon as some cars I saw coming into Leeds had inches of snow on. Have 2 visits to do for work so will watch and see if I need to cancel - if I do I'm straight off home instead and will work therePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
