Weather here is dull and grey as usual. 3rd time this week i have been woken up from the loud wind throwing hail stones at my window. I too are one of those people that are hoping for snow soon though!
  • All of a sudden it has gone eerily quiet here in cornwall, hardly any wind at all, can't hear anything from inside kitchen what so ever!!! Been like that for about an hour now!

Had some now again this morning it come down quite a bit and started to settle but after 15 mins it stopped
  • my stove has arrived and what a bargain, campingaz bistro from amazon and only £9.99 with free delivery. I didn`t realise that the gas bottle fits inside, so even better than expected. Kettle also arrived, yellowstone 2l stainless steel camp kettle, so am all set :)

rain today is showing lots of patches of hail so tricky driving conditions for many

bathroom and en suite are like saunas as I have 2 heavy loads of washing drying in there, I`m glad I got the lakeland heated airer last year and also put another rack in with that as the bathroom is warm from the heated airer. Good job the vents open up with humidity and that my washer does a 1600 spin

Clean flannels are now on the beds (2 singles together) and all food for today is ready so I`ll shortly be settling down with a mug of hot tea and a good book

oh I just remembered. I gave the thermos a good test yesterday and filled up with boiling water at 7 am on 13th, today at 9 am 14th, I poured one into a bowl and it was still far too hot to put my hand in and steam came off as I poured. Dh shaved with the other one. They were expensive but well worth it. I got them from the thermos site and they are metal so will be suitable for leaving in a will. I got fed up with flasks that became lukewarm in 4 hours

I am glad to hear you did as well, it was totally a daft decision for you HA to change it over now, not even just because it was likely to be cold, but if anything went wrong you could have been stuck with no heating or hot water over the holidays. You stay safe and warm. :)

Thanks to all who have supplied keeping-bed-warm tips, was actually IN bed when most of them came in so will implement blanket on top tonight nd others that require stripping bed nd building up from the mattress at the w/e!
I have hotties but they go cold - do I need a cover to improve this??
Am trying to train youngest dog to sleep IN the bed all night but she is the proverbial hot-dog herself and has to surface to cool down so she is only intermittently useful.
We sound as if we are going to escape the worst of this weeks weather in East Anglia - thats what you get when you stick out in the sea I suppose (altho not true for the poor folk in SW). Heartfelt hugs and good wishes to everyone suffering- please keep safe you guys.

Hi to you,:)not sure where you are at in East Anglia but im right on the coast near the sea, as you know weve had very little wind here today and its been sunny all day with blue skies, what id call a beautiful drying day again..........

It did turn cooler just after lunch, thats when the heating went on,:D2 dogs lying on the floor on their backs with all their legs in the air......:eek:making their selves "at home ", Ive got my store cupboards full to keep us going should we have a bad winter.....On the subject of bri nylon sheets I didnt think they still made them, must be 30 yr ago since I slept in them,it maybe false econmy to buy them , cheaper materials dont wash very well for very long, I would imagine they will bobble..........I like my crisp white cotton sheets, with only the duvet on , and being in bed for a few mins I have to chuck that off to cool down, and thats with the big window open too, so how you lot go to bed with night wear on and mattress toppers etc etc , I ll never know......im hot stuff...:eek:id wake up dead if I were you..:D:eek::)!!......
Well ive done as much christmas shopping that I want to spend on it, so now what I havent got we will go without,we all need to keep ourselves warm and fed all the year round not stuff ourselves silly at christmas and starve (or cut back drastically)any other time of the year.........Well get xmas out of the way and early January the nights will start to pull out,:D:D feel like the helluver long winter already.......We dont get the weather too bad here, not like you poor folk up north................

Has anyone bought the fleecy sheets from lidls yet - Im just wondering what they are like

Managed to get the last double today  purple (wouldn''t have been my 1st choice but at least I got one).

It feels OK - obviously not a patch on the JL one (which was nearly 3 x the price) but should do fine (for me, I really only need it as a spare in case I can't get the other one dried).

It doesn't feel slidey and feels quite warm. I'd say if you don't have one, it's worth the money.
Kept my 5 cats in in case they got blown away!

Mine have been in for 3 days now ......:( they only tolerate (and that's putting it nicely) each other at the best of times so scraps are starting to break out :(.

I did kick them out (not literally:)) when I got home earlier as it was a bit calmer - boy was back in less than 5 minutes & girl wasn't far behind!

Sounds similar to mine (had it for years) - I like it as it's really sturdy (not so much an issue in the kitchen but makes a difference when camping).

It's baltic out there .... my wee fingers are like ice blocks again so feeling a cuppa coming on to thaw them out.

I have splashed out on a new fridge / freezer today :o - found one I liked in store (£349.99 & really couldn't afford more than £300) and phoned DF who checked online and found it for a much more respectable price (£269.99 with free delivery & free removal of the old one & cashback;)).

The others I liked were mega-bucks so even in the sales I would've struggled to beat that price. Hope nothing else breaks down (phones had to be replaced a couple of weeks ago) as emergency fund & practically everything else will be wiped out when the cc bill arrives!
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Ooh we had that last winter and it was quite creepy and exciting. It was after dark and the sky went pale orange and we had really dramatic lightning. Course, as soon as I heard the thunder, I thought great, now we'll get rain to wash away the snow. Of course there was no rain. I had never heard of thundersnow before.:D

I can now def vouch for bubble wrapping windows - the house is much warmer - retains heat much better ie less heat loss - such a difference. I bubble wrapped all my windows. Stay warm everyone.
