Rising - I need a new fridge/freezer. Which one did you get please?
This one ..... http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/indesit-bia12f-fridge-freezer-white-09919610-pdt.html
It was the nicest one at the right size and an OK price.
There was also another that was a bit cheaper which seemed OK ... but it had a smaller fridge/larger freezer and the one above suited me better http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/hotpoint-rfa52p-fridge-freezer-white-00939834-pdt.html

I can now def vouch for bubble wrapping windows - the house is much warmer - retains heat much better ie less heat loss - such a difference. I bubble wrapped all my windows.
I sneaked a peak through the bedroom curtains (with fleece linings;)) this morning - they've been shut since last week (who cares what the neighbours think!) and I couldn't believe how cold & draughty it was behind them...... brrrrrrr
(No bubble wrap on the windows tho')SpikyHedgehog wrote: »Mum sticks them in pillowcases when the boys stay over with my parents, I guess that would help? Will experiment tonight!
I made covers for mine out of an old hand towel, cut in 1/2 and stitched up each side - works a treat. The end is open (but longer than the bottle) and it's fine. I was going to add poppers or similar but I've not bothered.....I had two put on my front driving wheels and my car feels like a little tankHope that it still feels like that in the snow, might be able to actually stop in it this year unlike last year when the car would just keep going
I've hunted everywhere for winter tyres for mine .... no success so far (very thin & small rims) and having bought the F/F I've no money left if I do manage to find some:eek:.
Really hoping the very bad weather holds off - I use the bus when it's terrible (rural roads with a huge hill to go up & down:eek:) but would really be struggling to walk to the bus stop atm (about a mile) as I'm still recovering from surgery. Fingers crossedGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Confuzzled - usually I watch the weather forums, cos I think they're funny how they go over the top and they all want bad weather and tons of snow
but I've not not been too good for a couple of days and canny be a$$sed. Is dead quiet and frozen hard here, such a relief to be rid of rain and wind.

I have a feeling that scotland is going to be fairly uneventful if i'm honest... Its more midlands and us softie southerners that are going to be hit by this event (see, I know the lingo already :rotfl:)
Having said that, the models (:rotfl:) are changing by the hour so I wouldn't be making bets on snow one way or the other for any of us.0 -

Hilarious isn't it!!! More highs and lows on the forums than in the actual weather :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

For I am not the daily fail, Mard, :rotfl:
Plus, I think us softie southerners get excited by the merest hint of the white stuff (despite the M4 grinding to a halt) Because its been so infrequent until the last couple of years so its more excitement than the arrival of armageddon when snow is forecast!!! High winds do cause a bit of an armageddon panic down here tho.
(I got the armegeddon word in twice, three if you count the one in this sentence... is that ok? :rotfl:)0 -
My belated preparations for Winter stood the test as we had no power for almost 2 days!! The power went of at 2am Tuesday and came back on at 4pm today!
We had all our torches and candles to hand and had food that could be cooked on a hob.
As the wood was all chopped and stacked we had the wood burner lit and virtually lived in the living room. If anyone watches Look North you would have seen the amazing United Utility guys working in blizzard conditions through the night to get our power back on. The poles carrying the power lines either snapped or keeled over with the weight of the ice and snow.
After last year with no water I thought this year was going to be easy
I have learnt that we need more flasks and I need warmer slippers!business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Well with redlady to the west of me and frugal to the north, I'm hoping we'll see a bit of snow but not enough to stop OH coming over next week. I can't decide whether I want him to be snowed in here then, or for it to wait until after christmas so we can both do our respective family stuff....
... I have bubble wrapped the front and back door windows, and the bathroom and half the spare room with the stuff from my latest approved food order. I then checked the shed and have found enough to do the rest of the spare room and probably the downstairs loo as well. Those are the only ones I'm doing. We're putting up curtain poles in the study and spare room next week, so curtains will be back up (study ones are being interlined and I will pick them up from my mum's at Christmas).
Batch cooking is being done both for christmas baking and for soup and casseroles that can be reheated on the hob. I'm so well prepared I can't imagine it will bother being a hard winter now...0 -
