and book another trip to Egypt to stock up on the awesome anti [STRIKE]sickness/diorreah[/STRIKE] (!!!!!!) meds!!!
Wonderful place for meds, I got really badly sunburnt there (a single blister across my shoulders:eek:) and rellies trotted into chemist and got the most wonderful cream which dried and took pain away so quickly.
Not to make you jealous or anything, off there end of March :TA smile costs little but creates much0 -

Hi folks, put some bubble wrap on my bedroom window yesterday but it doesn't seem to have stuck very well. I did spray quite a lot of water on the window so is that likely the problem?
The main reason for doing it was to try and stop condensation on the window as it gets so bad in there, felt the bubble wrap this morning and it was wet! Perhaps it's because the bubble wrap isn't stuck well or because I sprayed too much water but i'd be grateful for any help or tips.0 -
I'm going to bubblewrap a few windows. I've been using a heck of a lot of duct tape so far this year to block up gaps. I wondered why, despite duct taping round the window in our bedroom, I was still feeling a draught when I was sitting in bed. I discovered today that there is a gap underneath the windowsill! There are so many draughts in this house, and it's damp too. I don't think I could face another winter here - hopefully this will be the last one.
Apparently on the northwest news this morning they were showing the empty shelves in our local Tesco - there were just a few tins of cat food left! The problem is that there have been so many sailings cancelled, and Tesco rely on daily deliveries as they don't have a warehouse here. I think that was very short-sighted of them tbh. Shoprite, which is the main supermarket here, won't run out because they have a huge warehouse so their shelves are full. So luckily we won't all be reduced to eating each other!0 -

you really only need to dampen the glass, i use a wet sponge, wipe the glass then gently press the wrap (bubble sides to window) and smooth it down lightly. make sure you cut it to fit so you don't have a lot of extra sticking out, i find the weight of that often pulls it down
i think perhaps you used too much water, try the sponge technique and see how that goes. if it comes loose midwinter you just need to use the sponge again and pat it back into place0 -

i know how you feel, both my daughter and i are a little perturbed at the teasing amount of snow we got earlier in the week and are desperately wanting more
from the weather warning posted by mardatha it's possible we may just get it. in preparations for such horrible weather i turned on both the hall heater and the living room heater and turned them up a bit higher than i normally would do. with storage heaters i may have to wait nearly an entire extra day for heat once power is restored should we lose power depending on when the power goes out so i wanted to up the room temp NOW before we might lose power due to such high winds
it's working, it's 18.5C in here now, normally it's between 16.5 to 17C and oddly i actually feel a tad too warm now, i've taken off my slippers!
gonna have my daughter climb up in the bathroom windowsill and blue tak the trickle vent so it will stay closed, it's sooo cold in there and it will only get worse if it's blowing a major hoolie outside, there's no heater in there so i figure if i use blue tak i can use my cane to open and close it (it's up quite high AND is setback very deeply).
hope everyone stays safe!0 -
Throughout the summer I got in the habit of shoving the last crust (which my family don't seem to realise can be eaten!) still in the bag, without ceremony, into the freezer, thinking that they would do for the birds in the winter. Running short of bread the other day I realised that they will do nicely with my lunchtime soup... sorry birdies! (They do get seed and fatballs!:o;))The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
