  • Wow tyre and iphone stealing?! You poor poor thing. How frustrating? Well done on not letting it get to you and trying to be positive about the new house and exciting times ahead - you have a great attitude. Hope the meal was lovely and your friend enjoyed her surprise! xx

  • Thanks Brightspark! Vary frustrating! I'm a bit behind now on my money and it will take me a couple of months to be back on budget, so I need to live extra frugally for a bit.

Meal was great thanks! She loved the surprise she had no idea at all and was really tearful (in a good way I hope) that we were all there!

I just popped out to buy some euros, it is the wedding in Frankfurt this weekend where I am a bridesmaid (NOT A WAITRESS!!!) I hope the weekend is more fun than I expect it to be. There's been a few things about it which have ticked me off a bit so I need to forget about those and just look forward to the weekend and celebrating her happy day.

After this weekend I am hoping we can have a couple of quiet weekends to be at home and enjoy the flat, finish furniture building and unpacking!

  • Happy Monday all,

Wedding weekend was fun in the end a bit frustrating being a bridesmaid and not being told where to be or go to at all so we just turned up to the church and hoped that was the right thing!

Annoyingly, BA cancelled my flight home yesterday which was supposed to be 11am, the only other option was the 7:30am unfortunately by the time this was communicated to me I had drank enough to sink a ship, I think I was still merry on the flight home.

It meant I had to have a €60 cab ride to the airport as the trains weren't running so I have submitted a claim to get a refund from BA.

Yesterday I had a snooze to get over my hangover, did the shopping for the week (we are getting better at food planning) and we had a nice walk in Windsor park in the early evening sun.

Today I walked the long way to work from the station which was about 4.5km so that was good and I will do the same tonight. I am really struggling to fit the gym in at the moment so this is a way of getting some exercise at least! I bought lunches for the week, salad and chicken-y bits from M&S, very yum.

A friend at work just came over and popped a bottle of pink champers on my desk! I sold him my Wales vs Fiji tickets for the RWC so sweet of him, he really didn't need to! But I will enjoy drinking it none-the less!

This week is mostly work, I have dinner out tonight and Thursday, need to try and limit my booze intake.

Hope all well with you guys!

  • Hi - flights sounds very frustrating but at least you knew about it, could have been an awful lot worse. I know what you mean about exercise - I was busy and worked hard in London but always fitted it in... here it seems to be a little more difficult!

Good luck on the cutting down part too, I find it very easy to drink when I go out with friends - now at least I have the excuse of driving! x

  • I have an odd one to ask you guys this morning...

Do you ever find yourselves over-worrying unnecessarily?

It's funny but recently (probably because I've had a big change in moving from London) I find I worry a lot and am really anxious and as a result moan about things coming up that actually turn out to be OK!

Two examples... tomorrow night a colleague at work arranged for drinks with a guy who is related to our work and may even join us in a position we're creating but because I know they like to drink and stay out late I find myself fretting about it, like I should have some sort of excuse ready to be able to leave early enough not to get the last train home. I know I'll really enjoy the evening and there's no reason for me not to get the last train home, it won't be empty and there's a taxi rank at my station at the other end who will get me home safely but part of me hopes that the evening will be cancelled so I don't have to worry about getting home.

The other thing is, when I know M has to work over night and I'll be home alone I cannot relax, the other night as soon as I had eaten I went straight to bed and watched TV on my ipad until I fell asleep. I worry that when he's not there something will happen which I need him for... like what if there's an enormous spider that I'm too afraid to eject from the flat?!

Any ideas? Maybe it's just a time thing and I don't feel quite at home yet in the new flat and still getting used to the commute.

In other news, payday today! A tight month as a result of not receiving payment for the iPhone but I think we can live a little more cheaply this month now we don't have the move to worry about or a foreign wedding to attend!

  • Hi LG I have been very much feeling the same! I never felt this way before, I think its because so much new to me too driving and things lots of change! I am now getting my confidence back and want to do more. Perhaps with time (you need to make sure you have some time to yourself too! Its stressful moving and buying a house) to do whatever it is you want to do even if that is going to bed early and watching tv! xx

It's good to hear it's not just me! Glad to hear that you're getting your confidence back so I'm sure I will too in time it is just quite unsettling isn't it?!

The drinks for tonight I mentioned above have actually been cancelled lol! So I have booked myself a hair appointment and will pick up a bottle of vino on the way home. I think that's a good start?! xx

Hi, glad you are all moved in.
Your concerns are probably to do with things being new, and I hope they should dissipate after a little while. When you are more used to that train journey and getting home whether later in the evening or just generally for your commute, you will become less concerned about it I feel. I used to work in central london but live at the end of a tube line. I could get an overland train too but I remember worrying about missing it, and/or the connection at the end when it was new to me. But after a few months I became adept at the best way home, the best train to enable getting a cab without waiting etc. I think you'll find its the same.

And as for OH being away, well that will get easier too. Currently you're feeling the emptiness and whilst you weren't together all the time before you moved, you always had flatmates and distractions on hand. When you get more familiar with your new surroundings, form local friendships etc then it will get easier. Planning something to do on those evenings whether at home or elsewhere will help...though not too late a night or you'll create a double worry situation.

Baby steps, you'll get it sorted.

Thanks so much, you're right it just takes a bit of time. We made some progress on sorting our stuff out at the weekend so I started to relax a bit more until we were settled watching X factor and the biggest 8 legged fiend I have ever seen makes an appearance so that unsettled me again for the night. Really need to get over this fear that is one of the biggest things that holds me back.

  • Oh also at the weekend, on Saturday, OH hired a van to go to his Mum's to pick up his bed there for our spare room (my parents are coming to stay the weekend after this one so we hurried along picking it up). While he was out I cleared some space for it but when he got back and we unloaded it, it hit me how awful it smelt of cigarette smoke. Although his mum has almost quit now the mattress and bed frame (duvan) have a good 10 years of cigarette smoke embedded in them. We had a febreeze attempt but I think after that long its permanent, it also has a yellow-y colour to it too and looks awful. When you open the door to the spare room now you have to hold your breath! Such a shame as we could have done without buying a new bed and also the cost of hiring a van to pick up a bed which will now get thrown away!

So we've had to take the decision that that bed will need to go to the tip and we've ordered a cheap frame and mattress that was on offer from Argos, they also have 15% off home furnishings when you spend over £100 so that helped too.

OH has no over night shifts this week which is good, I am away with work on Thursday and back Friday then at the weekend we intend to get rid of this bed and try and get rid of some more stuff from the spare room so its ready for mum and dad next weekend.

Trying to have a NSD today, going well so far as I brought in my lunch and dinner is already in the fridge at home!
