But a bit of helpful advice.. ask the jobcentre about a wheels 2 work
or similar scheme running in your area, most counties have one,
they will lend you a scooter for a small fee and pay for you to do a
CBT.

Many people take a bike to work, I had to buy one when my old car died on me and I couldn't afford to have it mended. Summer, spring, autumn and lo and behold, winter.
..........And 3:00am in the morning as well? Although the busiest road nearest the Nissan plant is the A19 which isn't motorway.
And he can bike TO work as well as home, rather than have a bike and get on the bus *what planet are YOU on?].
The real world.......The OP will be absolutely knackered and likely in no fit state to put in a decent shift!
Plus, once the OP has started, they might be able to get a lift some or all of the way with other people leaving at the same time. If it is by a motorway then it's highly likely others will be travelling along the self same motorway some or all of the distance the OP needs.
Difficult one for the OP and a shame if he has to miss out on a job because of having no transport of his own. Perhaps the bike is an option in the short term, but certainly not one I would reslish.0 -
I still don't see what's extreme about a 24-year-old young man relocating, given there's a high possibility that he is either living with his parents or renting. If the former it would be an ideal opportunity to spread his wings a bit before he gets into the living-at-home-forever rut that seems to prevail these days.
My father relocated for a job at age 47, from the North West to the Midlands, when his daughters were 13 and 11. The move involved selling the house and buying another, changing the daughters' school, moving his wife away from all her friends and social circle.
All I'm suggesting is that he looks for a room or house share at an affordable rent in the vicinity of the job. What's the big deal? Actually in an area where there is still heavy industry I'd think there would be plenty of people doing the rent-a-room by taking a lodger scheme, which might suit him as he would get his meals provided too.
If he'd be worried about losing his social life back home, he can make that bus trip twice a week instead of twelve times.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

What's the big deal?
The "big deal" is that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
You have no idea whatsoever whether it is practical, feasible or physically possible for the OP to do this - you are making massive assumptions based on perjorative prejudices and stereotypes about the lifestyles of working people.
This thread contains some of the worst advice I have ever seen on this board. It is better suited to the comments section of the Daily Mail website than a supportive community forum.0 -

Riiiiiiiight... so in the 21st century era of satellite communications, cross-continental business travel, 50 mile daily commutes, it is absolutely inconceivable that a healthy young man of 24 could even contemplate moving 13 miles from where he currently lives, in order to take up a proper job with good prospects, and thereby probably set himself up on a career path for his entire future working life?
Right.

The very title of this thread tells me everything I need to know about this chap's attitude.
Whatever happened to ambition, going the extra mile (or 13), seeing opportunities not obstacles, working around a problem rather than just throwing up hands and giving up?
Nissan might be better off without someone who has no imagination or determination, and doesn't do problem solving. I doubt the Japanese would be very impressed.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Its obviously not inconceivable, but neither are you able to simply assume it is possible based on what you know.Bogof_Babe wrote: »The very title of this thread tells me everything I need to know about this chap's attitude.

Also most jobs at Nissan require you to be on your feet and working on a very fast production line for 12+ hour shifts, the money is canny, but not great considering the hard, monotonous work involved, and after a 12 hour shift a Nissan I doubt many people could cycle 13 miles(probably along a 70 mph dual carriageway)If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.0
