  • If this were my brother/son/nephew/partner I would, for the first month, either put them on my insurance and lend them my car or offer to go and pick them up from work and bring them home. 13 miles is no time in a car. Or the family would rally round and help get a cheap 2nd hand scooter. Cycling 26 miles a day when the weather's about to get so rubbish (and coming home very late) is absurd, and the OP doesn't have the cash for a bike anyway.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And what heavy industry might that be then?

    Shipyards............Gone
    Coal Mines..........Gone
    Steelworks..........Mostly Gone
    Factories...........Disappearing fast.

Even the call centres that were a lifeline are now in India!

What do Nissan do then? Financial services?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Crikey did not expect to start world war 3 on here .

I have been in touch with http://www.jobcarz.co.uk/index.php suggested by Vroombroom and have been told to get some covering information and referals from professionals so the job centre and my doctor are both putting them in for me so thats is looking hopeful .

I thought of biking it also but to be honest i wouldnt feel to comfortable going along the a19 at about 10 mile an hour with artics flying past me at 56mph plus being asmastic probs not the best thing for me to do .

Moving away from home would be an impossability as i dont live alone and losing a long term house for a 6 month contract at nissan that might not become permanent would be crazy .

I have contacted the company about lift shares and they have said that it is not impossible but would be hard because of shift times and people work different all the time .

My question was partially answered about the jobcentre saying that i will get a sanction on my money if i turn the job down as walking will take me over the 90 min mark im sure but hopefully i wont have to go that way as im adament i will get this job

    yeah car finance lol :p

The point is though that although there are still some factories up here a lot of them have closed down now and the ones that remain have scaled down, The mines which did provide the vast majority of employment have all gone now, so not only have those jobs gone but all the supporting jobs too.

Jonsyt, thats great I'll keep my fingers crossed you can get one of the cars and that the contract becomes permanent.

they say 90 mins by public transport, not walking. The fact that there is no public transport available at that time just doesn't seem to affect their decision. :(

You cannot ride a 50cc scooter on a motorway. The op states it is a 13 mile trip, but is calculating this by using the motorway. An alternative bike/scooter friendly route might actually be closer to 25 miles each way.

OP, try all you can to find a way to get to/from the Nissan plant. The first few weeks will be hard, but they soon get easier. If you ignore all the stupid comments from certain posters and read the sensible ones, then they will be a great help.
