You cannot ride a 50cc scooter on a motorway. The op states it is a 13 mile trip, but is calculating this by using the motorway. An alternative bike/scooter friendly route might actually be closer to 25 miles each way.
    .

i thought the same at first but he does say it's a "13 mile walk" so that could be the worst case scenario.

What do Nissan do then? Financial services?

    A pearl in a turd.

A stupid comment. Nissan is indeed a great asset to our area but the reality is that all the major employers in our traditional heavy industries have all but gone.

And it will get worse as we are also reliant on public sector employment up here so the future is not overly rosy on that front either.

We are one of (if not the biggest) employment black spots in the country - or do you not watch the news?

A lot of the frustration that arises from some posters is the feeling that some posters give up on a job prospect before having even tried to figure out a solution to whatever problem they encounter.

OP has been out of employment for 7 months, so being offered a full-time job at a good pay is a chance that can't just been thrown away unless it is an absolute last resort.

So far, there is no indication that OP has come close to reaching last resort. Has he/she spoken to the employer to find out about arrangements, car share, possibilities to stay a bit later and take first bus back home etc.. Has he/she approached all his/her friends/family to see if they could help with the money, they might not be able to do individually but how about all together? Early birthday/chritmas present? And if they have to cycle for a couple of weeks, whilst paying only for the absolute essentials to be able to save every penny as quickly as possible to get a car, surely that is a better alternative long term than remaining on JSA until the perfect job comes.

And if does come down to this, maybe the OP can start to save every penny out of their JSA to be able to buy a car as soon as possible so that if another similar job happens to come again, they then will be ready to take it...

That won't take long then will it?.......The OP must have loads of disposable income to pile into a savings account being on JSA!

I dare bet the the OP's insurance would cost more than the car itself!

'Stay a bit later and wait for the first bus' is not the best idea - when I used to work shifts, all I wanted to do was get back home to bed.........not hang around a factory for four hours waiting for a lift home - FBaby...have you ever worked night shifts?

I wonder at time what planet some people are on taking into consideration some of the 'suggestions' on here - suggestions very likely made by people who have never been out of work in the current climate.

13 miles walking would take you 4 hrs 20 minutes boy thats a llong walk you need to find someone who could perhaps give you a lift home

plus its illegal to wlak along the motorway

Crikey did not expect to start world war 3 on here .

I have been in touch with http://www.jobcarz.co.uk/index.php suggested by Vroombroom and have been told to get some covering information and referals from professionals so the job centre and my doctor are both putting them in for me so thats is looking hopeful .

I thought of biking it also but to be honest i wouldnt feel to comfortable going along the a19 at about 10 mile an hour with artics flying past me at 56mph plus being asmastic probs not the best thing for me to do .

Moving away from home would be an impossability as i dont live alone and losing a long term house for a 6 month contract at nissan that might not become permanent would be crazy .

I have contacted the company about lift shares and they have said that it is not impossible but would be hard because of shift times and people work different all the time .

My question was partially answered about the jobcentre saying that i will get a sanction on my money if i turn the job down as walking will take me over the 90 min mark im sure but hopefully i wont have to go that way as im adament i will get this job
OP, you came on here looking for helpful suggestions, but given some of the responses which seemed to make the assumption that you were trying to get out of having to take a job I am glad that you came back and posted this reply.

Good luck with the new job. I hope that Jobcarz come through for you, but however you get to and from work initially, hopefully you will have earned enough within a couple of months to buy a cheap car or scooter.

  • The a19 is not a motorway, although it is a 70 mph dual carriageway you can legally ride a moped or walk it, but I wouldn't recommend it.
If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.

Jonsyt, thats great I'll keep my fingers crossed you can get one of the cars and that the contract becomes permanent.
Me too, it sounds a good scheme. :)

I wondered if that would help your situation too Looby, maybe not immediately but in the next 6-12 months as your DS becomes of an age to let himself in with a door key and starts at Secondary school?
