Yes, you post via Next Day delivery - get to the PO just before last post Mon-Thurs and fish arrives the next day before 1pm :) it's works as long as the box is marked fragile, there is a heat pack (bit cold to post them without one at the moment!) and you know how to bag them up properly. Doesn't work so well if you have a bag that your cats have put holes in, fish with spines that can poke holes in the bag, or a postie who does that thing where they tell you they've attempted delivery when you know they haven't because you've been sat next to the front door all day waiting for them to arrive :rotfl:

As a side note, how do you think fish are imported into this country in the first place ;)

I am strangely disturbed by this. I don't worry (much) about truckloads of animals going off to slaughterhouses but don't like to think of dizzy little fish, all on their own in the dark :(

  • Hey Caz, to stop GG/Tilly having sleepless nights, you'd better pack them with a light :)

If only it were that simple. Sometimes fish are wild caught and imported. Often they are bred on fish farms in places like Thailand or Germany. Then there's local breeders. The bags they're imported in are a lot smaller than the bags they're sent in if they're posted internally. Shockingly so. Definitely no eggs though, for the vast majority of species - the eggs are so sensitive light or being out of water destroys them. There are a few exceptions - some annual species of killifish have to have a spell of being out of water and then being rehydrated before they will hatch. :)

Aww you big softies :D if it helps, the reason it's taking me so long to find them homes is because I'm very picky so they're definitely going to wonderful new homes with good owners. Except my meaty shrimp. I don't think I'm going to find him a home - he may have to have his own little bachelor pad :) also, the fish I'm sending have already been well travelled, having arrived to me either via a 3 hour train ride in my rucksack or via the back of manwife's motorbike! :rotfl: they're old hands at travelling now!

What fish are you breeding? My BF has a tropical tank. Nothing exciting, some 3 spot gouramis, 3 types of tetras, swordtails (they had babies but we only managed to isolate/save two - it was very exciting) corys...... We enjoy it though. When he first got it and was planning the stock I forbade him from getting tetras as I thought the were a bit chavvy:rotfl: but they've ended up being my favourites.

Not breeding - I've got a sev, an African butterfly cichlid, 2 torpedo barbs, a bristlenose, an Ellioti, a plec, apple snails and the shrimp in one tank, then some harlequins in another. Am breaking both tanks down and selling everything up so I can get a 6*2*2 or 6*18*2 which will be a heavily planted riparium/palaudarium with a single large shoal of rummy nose tetras (my all time faves), mts and cherry shrimp. Currently I'm researching bog/pond plants :)

Once things have progressed a bit beyond the planning stages I'll share my journal for you guys to read :D

Today consists mostly of painting. We;ve removed everything from Lumpy's bedroom and put a first coat of cheapy white emulsion on. Will do another coat, perhaps 2 (depends on coverage) before putting a final coat of good quality silk on it. Carpet and stencilling will have to wait for another weekend though.

Next weekend is the first wedding of the year, then the weekend after that will be bathroom stuff. At some point I'm also hoping we can fit in the fitting of a fitted wardrobe type affair in the girls room. Bring on the house being like we want! :T
