You could have been out working all the time you have been arguing your corner on here.
You could have been doing your uni work or some housework too.
True, this has taken up quite a bit more of my time than I wanted and I feel a bit mentally exhausted, as i've been constantly typing. I guess It's annoying to see so many critics and I have to defend myself. If I don't reply then people assume I can't, therefore i've lost the argument.

It doesn't make you ( general 'you') any less 'successful' if you travel the world working here and there to support yourself, build an eco house in the forest, or generally opt out of a 9-5 existence, I'm a great believer that whilst paper qualifications are good to have ( not least for the sense of achievement), 'life' experience is immensely valuable, both to yourself and future employers...it is much easier to do that of course if you are supporting only yourself, so best done young!

It's not an easy choice to opt out of 'security' in the form of a career from the outset, if you're prepared to sometimes live hand to mouth, then do it. Don't ask for or expect approval, not everyone can see the wider world as an adventure... they are doing what feels best for them, which is fine, and you should do what feels best for you in that respect.
I do agree entirely that a degree isn't worth much. I think mine is so valuable because of the experience, the people i've met and how it's changed me. I could have been more successful just working for these years. I wouldn't change it though as i'm in a much better position to do well, than if i'd just gone into work. Although that is conjecture.

I do find that the further you go out of normality, the more people will tell you that you're wrong. Only a small percentage of people would advise I go teaching English in Brazil if I want to be, say, in the IT industry. That's what I would prefer to do. I'd be happy if people just said it's not for them, but fair enough. They don't do that though; they say i'm delusional and not living in the real world, which is really patronising.
I'm just getting really sick of it is all.

You do not need to defend yourself. You need to switch the computer off & get some work done.

so if you were found out you could be in a worse position than now, you could have a criminal record which you would have to declare on application forms, i think your being daft claiming jsa when your not actually looking for work but your not the only 1 doing it. I think most people on jsa are doing they're best to find work and its only a minority who arent doing what is required, i know id rather be working after spending 5 months on jsa.
Yes, but getting caught is very slim. How could they prove this? It certainly won't be from this thread. They can trace my IP address but there will be discrepancies, and they'll have to prove that I was using this address and not my neighbor. Also they'll have a good job as i'm on a proxy. It's hard for JSA to prove you're not looking for work when you give them an exhaustive list of places you've tried, with a description of what you've been doing.

For me there are three choices.

    1. I stop university, a few weeks from the end and go into work.
    2. I do my university work and get no money.
    3. I do my university work and claim JSA, then go into work.

    The choice is obvious.

I will NOT be on it for 5 months. Living on JSA isn't really living, it's just existing. I'll be working very soon, I'm very confident.

True, I shouldn't reply, but I feel I have something to prove, with all of these people coming in here saying I don't deserve to live etc.

how are they going to get your IP address ? there arent little gremlins working the job centre who track peoples IP addresses,

like i said its unlikely you would be caught but a slim chance(reply #208), i just think its wrong but there you thats my opinion. Id forget about the thread and concentrate on getting the module done asap.

How are you so confident of getting a job ? nothing is certain in the job sector.

I think it's easy for people to glaze over when they hear 'I want to do this and that' and 'in a few years I'll be living there'. Anyone can say and think the things you do. If you want do cycle touring, go and do it, it's very cheap and pretty easy to do. Likewise Australia or buying a house, all this 'if you want it bad enough you will get it' crap is nonsense. If you want it enough to figure out a viable plan that you stick to then people are more likely to believe you if they can see the reality of it.
And according to Mahler (1933) announcing plans to others make you less likely to achieve them.

    Stop talking and start doing.

    Again, thanks for the wisdom.

I'm treated like I know nothing of the world and one day I'll come to realise that they are correct.
Yup - that's about the rub of it.
