I think there's a difference between plugging £1 a week into the lottery, and buying £20 worth of tickets each week

My mother-in-law used to buy about 12 tickets a week, which horrified me. She insisted that she was in profit, but she's also got alzheimers and so can't be relied on for an accurate account. I think it's near exploitation to let vulnerable elderly ladies spend so much - particularly when it's their state pension that they're throwing away.

If people can afford it though there isn't a problem.

I'll quite happily admit I enjoy some gambling. I have a few bets on sports, have a night out at the casino once or twice a month and play the lottery. I can afford to do this. I don't have to change a single aspect of the way I live my life to accomodate gambling. I still put the same amount in savings each month, spend the same on what I normally buy, give the same to charity etc.

If, however, because I'd gambled some money, I had to change my routine in some way, even if it was so much as not being able to buy a coffee that I would normally buy, then that would indicate a problem.

As she has alzheimers it changes the circumstances but for most elderly people, they worked for their state pensions and they should be able to spend it on the lottery if they so desire.

So who 'lets' them do it? Shop assistants can't be expected to carry out a capability assessement before they sell a ticket.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I don't have a set amount as I am more spontaneous in buying a lotto ticket n scratcharoo these days.

A win or series of wins gives me a little push/incentive to continue playing a little longer. Sometimes I lose interest and don't bother.

Tonight/tmw just done a thunderball to keep a hand in!!

For Lotto/Euromillions generally I play when there is a Rollover. I always +5 now too. Got a bit bored of the Euro being drawn twice a week so don't always even do that now.
Scratchcards vary, but I reckon £5 a month is about right if that.
  • Not really a set amount, more just here and thee.

My mums aunt who is addicted to buying scratchcards won £80,000 on one!!!
    Lucky lucky lady :)

Just registered a new lottery syndicate guide2lotto.co.uk. Any feedback will be welcome
    You can also e-mail me manager@ guide2lotto.co.uk
    Thanks

Before I joined an on-line syndicate and gave my bank account details, I would need to know a lot more about the company running it, in a 'Who are we?' section.
  • I probably spend around £5 a month on the lottery - some months more, some not at all. My boyfriend has just go into the lottery and is going ridiculous on it, I'm going to have to keep an eye on him:mad:
